Messages of Support for Crispin:
"I don't generally vote conservative, but I do appreciate having an efficient and responsive MP. I wish Crispin Blunt a resounding victory as there is no good reason for him to face a ballot and the suggestion that his sexuality is the reason is repugnant and reflects poorly on this area." - Sarah Lloyd Jones"We are very hopeful that you will keep your seat. You have shown our family tremendous support and sympathy in very difficult circumstances. You have been one of the few MP’s to show concern with regard to my daughter and her treatment and we look to you to lead the way forward.
On a personal note, despite being very busy you have always awarded us time and understanding of our situation but we also see the tremendous support you give to our town, it’s issues and it’s businesses. You simply must keep your seat in Reigate.
All our family, and Freda and David Birrell, offer you the best of luck." - Clare, John and Rebecca Rammage"I would like to confirm that you are an extremely hardworking MP, who listens to all voices in their constituency.
feel deeply indebted to you, as you heard me when I was not able to get through to a government department
which was delaying urgent action. As a single mother I needed your help. You responded immediately. My
daughter and I would have had a bitter struggle ifthis action had not taken place. I hope you are very successful in
your campaign and you can always count on my vote and and my continued support in any work you undertake.
Let me take this opportunity to thank you again for your help. My daughter who is now 18 years old has had a fine
education and is expecting to study veterinary science. I firmly believe it would have been difficult for us to have
achieve all what we have done, if you had not stepped in and helped us. We both wish you all the best and hope
that everything turns out as you would wish it to." - Fernando Harshini, constituent"My wife and I were more than surprised that you personally intervened to help resolve a crisis on our family's behalf at a difficult time for us. I have a cynical view of MPs in general, but was pleasantly surprised and from other comments, I can see that this is a consistent approach from Crispin; it's demonstration of the local touch that is so needed from MPs. We will happily support you for Reigate in the 2015 elections." - Simon Chiles"I am an international civil servant and earlier this year Mr Blunt offered his help when I had a problem with the border agency who had denied my fiancée the right to enter the uk to visit me while I was quite seriously Ill in hospital. His intervention, together with that of his very efficient secretary , quickly resolved the problem, for which I am extremely grateful. It seems to me that Reigate has an MP that really takes very seriously the task of defending the rights of his constituents. I wish him luck with his campaign for reelection." - Dr. Andrew Mold PhD MPhil (cantab)"
Crispin Blunt has been a good colleague, a very competent Minister and an excellent parliamentary performer and I am delighted to support him in whatever way I can.
" - Brian Binley MP"As an ex Reigate resident and Reigate Conservative Association member, I helped in the campaign to first get Crispin elected to Parliament. He was and still is a great Member of Parliament and Reigate should think themselves lucky to have him. " - Jon Lewis"Whilst I am politically opposite to Mr Blunt, I will say that in my dealings with him, and in his performance and bearing of his duties as the MP for Reigate, I cannot, honestly fault him.
I certainly feel that he is one of the most accessible ones, is not a "soundbite" type of MP, takes his job seriously, and does not,-unlike many in Parliament today- apparently see it merely as a stepping stone to higher office, or reward.
I was particularly impressed by his opinions on Syria to LBC, radio; they were some of the most sensible, and well thought out ones I heard.
Voting against military action, which showed courage, a real feel for the feeling in his constituency and steadfastness in the face of an increasingly frenzied push for war within his own party, and the media. He should be supported in his bid to remain Reigate's MP. " - Mark Collins"Crispin worked with me in the Shadow Home Affairs team and was both diligent and a really effective performer for our Party. I know him as both a neighbour and colleague and believe Parliament would be a poorer place without him. I hope he will receive your support. " - Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP, Secretary of State for Justice"Throughout the sixteen years that I have known Crispin he knows that he has always been able to rely on my support and that will not change. He also knows that I shall always remember the kindness he has shown me in the past." - Cllr Carol Poulter"Crispin is an active and conscientious MP who regularly raises constituency matters in Parliament. His speeches on probation, the foreign affairs and the NHS are keenly followed by colleagues. He was an exemplary Minister always keen to help those of us in marginal seats and is a well respected Parliamentarian." - Robin Walker MP"Message from The Rt Hon Nick Herbert, MP for Arundel & South Downs:
"I had the privilege of working with Crispin at the Ministry of Justice when we were both ministers there and he was the best of colleagues - brave, principled, hard-working and committed to his brief. I've also worked with Crispin in the Commons where he shows the same virtues, and I've seen him raise issues on behalf his constituents with characteristic tenacity. Crispin is a great MP, an asset to the Party and a friend, and I hope that he receives the support in his constituency which he deserves."" - Nick Herbert MP"I sought your assistance over the serious concern of Gatwick airport noise. This was the first time I had contacted any political representative. I had no expectation that an MP would help and that they would cite pressure of work etc.. BUT you responded furthermore you met me at Gatwick airport with all the officials one needed to speak to AND you got some answers AND you improved lower aircraft noise by deviating aircraft. I will be forever grateful. Right from the "get go" you were up to speed with the problems, posing very insightful questions and not accepting glib answers. I was very impressed anybody would be.
A few years later you had a very courageous decision to make where public duty and personal life should have been kept separate and the lines respected. I greatly admired your dignified conduct throughout. I supported you then and I fully support you now.
I vote for the man also not just the various current party line/gimmick.
You are proven MP, may you continue to be so, offering further assistance to this country in further and higher office." - Michael F Chivers"Crispin is much respected in Parliament and since 1997 has served with dedication and distinction as Member for Reigate, as a Shadow Minister and Whip and latterly as Criminal Justice Minister.
We have always been impressed with the robust and indefatigable way that Crispin stands up for his constituents and the constituency of Reigate in Parliament and with Government and its agencies. Whether it is a matter of individual or of general concern to his constituents, Crispin pursues all issues with enormous vigour and determination. As Surrey MPs we all gain from the energy he brings to fighting Surrey's corner and all Surrey's residents are in his debt for the battles he has fought and continues to fight to help improve Surrey's financial settlement. He is a great asset to Reigate, to Surrey and to Parliament.
" - Jonathan Lord MP, Sir Paul Beresford MP, Rt. Hon. Michael Gove MP, Sam Gyimah MP, Rt. Hon. Phillip Hammond MP, Rt. Hon. Jeremy Hunt MP, Anne Milton MP, Dominic Raab MP."Crispin Blunt was most helpful in resolving an issue with my daughter's passport. I am most grateful for this and for all the other good work he does for our community. I would expect him to be re-selected and he will get my vote at the next election" - Sharon Prouty"I contacted Mr. Crispin Blunt for advice to help me in an ongoing case with HMRC . I was amazed at how easy it was to obtain an appointment and much reassured by the support. Mr. Blunt wrote to HMRC and the case was resolved within a few weeks when it had been dragging on for months prior to this. I would therefore be very happy to keep Mr Blunt as our local MP moving forward." - Laurence Turner"As so many other MPs have said in their messages, Crispin is a great colleague. One further point about the next General Election, if we may. We both witnessed at first hand fantastic mutual aid going from Reigate to Guildford at the Election in 2005. Indeed, that mutual aid proved absolutely crucial in helping us to win back the Guildford constituency from the LibDems by just 347 votes. In 2015, Reigate can again play an important role in helping to win other key marginal seats in the South East and thereby helping David Cameron to secure the overall Conservative majority that the country needs. This will be infinitely easier to do if the 'home front' in Reigate is secure because a well known, well liked and well respected local MP has been re-selected as the Parliamentary candidate." - Sir Paul Beresford MP and Jonathan Lord MP"I have asked Crispin Blunt for support twice now and he has come through for me both times. Because of this, I will absolutely vote for him in the next local elections. Thank you Crispin." - Rachel Stock"As a constituent, I have always found Crispin Blunt to be most efficient in supporting me and my neighbourhood in planning matters and recommend that he be selected again as our member of Parliament" - David Smart"I think that Crispin is an excellent MP he has always been extremely helpful to me in my role as Borough Councillor and now County Councillor he always has time to listen to any concerns and we do not always see eye to eye but he is an excellent MP and I would like to thank him for all his support and wish him good luck and let him know he has my full support" - Cllr Barbara Thomson "Since I was adopted as a Council candidate, and following my succesful election in 2012, Crispin has been extremely supportive of my efforts as a Councillor. He is an independently minded MP - and not afraid to ask obvious questions. Recent examples include Syria and, closer to home, the A23. Thank you Crispin - you have my full support!" - Cllr Keith Foreman"Although I have never voted for Mr Blunt, I am happy to confirm that he has helped me obtain a disabled parking bay outside my house. I had been trying for 3 years to get one from the Council, so I am sure that it wouldn’t have happened without Mr Blunt’s help.
I also had to ask for his assistance when the street lighting in my area was out for a number of weeks, which obviously presented a hazard to local residents. Thanks to Mr Blunt’s intervention, the lighting was restored quicker than we had expected.
" - Zena Dodgson, constituent"I knew Crispin's parents before he was elected to Parliament as the Member for Reigate, so when he became an MP he was no stranger to me. Throughout the time that he has represented Reigate Crispin has been an outstanding Parliamentarian, active in the House raising issues on behalf of his constituents and latterly as a first class Minister. He has made a considerable contribution to improving the justice system in this country. He is conscientious, hard working, courteous, a real gentleman. He is also highly intelligent with an ability to quickly grasp and master detail.I have the highest regard for Crispin Blunt.
I very much hope he is readopted as the candidate for Reigate." - David Amess MP"I worked for a year in Crispin's office in Westminster. I saw the energy and persistence with which he stands up for his constituents and tackles the problems faced by individuals. He was also a hardworking and effective minister whose willingness to engage with all sides of an argument has been praised by many in the justice sector; many of the messages on this page speak to his achievements in office. Finally, I have always admired Crispin for the independent way in which he approaches important national issues, particularly in relation to defence. I very much hope that Crispin will be re-selected to be Reigate's candidate in 2015, he has given 16 years of his life to serving the local community and it would be a great loss to them and to parliament if he were not." - Ruth Davis, former Parliamentary Researcher for Crispin Blunt MP"Crispin has been a friend and colleague since 1997, unstinting in his commitment to Parliament and to representing his constituents. He is an independently minded MP who makes an important contribution in the House of Commons." - Graham Brady MP, Chairman of the 1922 Committee"A brief note to let you know that I hope your association moves swiftly to readopt you.
Thanks is a commodity often in short supply at Westminster but I and others will always be grateful for the thoughtful help you gave to those of us in the 2010 intake struggling to find our feet in this strange place. And also for the independent line you have taken on important defence matters in which we share an interest. Good luck and best wishes." - Christopher Pincher MP"I just wanted to express my profound gratitude for your help and support last summer. I have no doubt that your strong support for my case had a very positive impact on the outcome. The resolution of the issue has not only been of great relief to myself but also to my parents, my sister and wider family. Thank you.
The speed with which you responded and the continuous support that you provided have made us realise how much effort and energy you put into your constituency work. I hope that you would continue to represent us in the future." - Yasmin Tavassoly, constituent"We are pleased to say that Crispin Blunt has proved his worth as our M.P. in giving us continued support in the fight for compensation caused by the Equitable Life fiasco. We have a catalogue of his attentive letters over 7 years, with replies from many Ministers, finally leading to the successful conclusion for us and many others. His support for local environmental issues has been outstanding in serving the constituents of Reigate and we wish him well in his endeavour to continue doing so in the future." - Michael and Sandra Keep, constituents"Crispin is a great asset to Parliament. I know how hard you for work for your constituents the enormous contribution you continue to make to public life. Crispin, you have my full support and I look forward to working with you for many years to come in Parliament.
All the best.
Adam" - Adam Afriyie MP"I am not a Politician - can't stand them, in fact. I served in HM Army with Crispin Blunt, he was our Ops Officer. He was, and is, a scholar and a gentleman. You should vote for him, again. I have no political axe to grind. " - David Gorrie, Formerly 13th/18th Royal Hussars (QMO) "Crispin has investigated the concerns we have raised promptly and provided reliable advice and support. I was very surprised by the result of the Executive's ballot (which certainly does not reflect my own opinion as a constituency resident)), and especially by the secrecy that apparently surrounds any discussion beforehand. " - Diana Boatman"Thanks for all your help in the past and look forward to your advice and veiws regarding the Earlswood Devlopment" - RAY FOSS"Crispin and I were elected to the House in 1997. We have been friends every since - not just political friends but personal friends as well. We worked together as Shadow Ministers and I have always found him a supportive and trusted colleague. I regard him as an MP who works hard to put the interests of his constituents to the forefront of his political activities. I would be very sorry to see him leave the House." - Rt Hon Dominic Grieve QC Attorney General "By any sensible measure Crispin has, is, and continues to be a truly superb Reigatian standing up for constituents of all political persuasions and passionately fights for our corner. I have recently had the pleasure of seeing this first hand on two occasions. 1. Our company had a tax complaint with the monster that is HMRC and 2. Supporting the redevelopment of Reigate Priory Cricket Club. In both cases Crispin's unerring encouragement, attention to detail and canny strategy delivered hugely successful outcomes. Outcomes that would have been all so different if he hadn't made the decision to provide his tenacious support.
To the nameless exec - you need to take a long hard look at yourselves. Your vote directly effects the lives of all of us and you must take personal responsibility for that. He is by a country mile the best candidate for Reigate and I'm delighted to see so many posts of support for his bid to remain as our MP in 2015.
" - David Tharp, constituent"I feel that Mr. Blunt is an excellent representative for our community and should be allowed to maintain his post. On a personal note, his office was very instrumental in helping me obtain my spousal visa so that I could return to my wife and family here when my wife was very ill. Without his help I feel very strongly that my visa would most probably been delayed for quite some time and this would have had extremely adverse effects on my wife's condition as well as the rest of the family. I owe Mr. Blunt and his staff a debt that could never be repaid. Please keep Crispin Blunt as our local MP!" - Jeff Girard"Having met you in both a personal and professional capacity more times than I care to mention I find it astonishing that your local association feel the need to behave in the way they are. You are a fantastic MP and an absolute gentlemen, I really hope that you are able to continue your good work in Reigate for many years to come. " - Philip Antony Wickett"I am delighted to have the opportunity to confirm that I have had first hand experience of your commitment to your constituents. When my husband was alive and severely disabled, I struggled with his care and contacted you with my concerns.
I appreciated your support and I wouldn't hesitate to vouch for your hard work and efforts on behalf of your constituents." - Adele Lyons, constituent"I have seen articles in the press about the unfortunate situation you have found yourself in with regard to your candidature for representing Reigate again at the 2015 Election.
I am writing to put on file that when I called to see you with my husband and our neighbour Mrs Sharon O'Leary, at the time we were trying to appeal against an Indian
restaurant opening adjacent to our properties, you were very sympathetic to our plight.
The reason we had enlisted your support was because although Reigate and Banstead Borough Council had rejected the change of usage to a restaurant the Planning
Inspectorate at Bristol had overturned the decision on appeal.
Unfortunately we were unable to prevent the change of usage and we now have to live with the fumes from the restaurant spoiling our enjoyment of our garden at certain times
of the day.
Another premises had applied for change of usage to a Chinese restaurant but on that occasion the individual from the Planning Inspectorate had the courtesy to call at our
property and that of number 2 and was able to appreciate that our concerns about the opening of the Indian restaurant were only too real, as she could smell the fumes and took on board the points that her colleague had ignored - i.e. that because of the fact that our properties were at a higher elevation than the Indian restaurant the fumes would not be dispersing at an appropriate level and that the situation was compounded even more because of being in a valley. One can only guess at why our concerns were not
given due consideration and why the inspector did not attend either ours or our neighbour's property before making his decision.
At our meeting you were kind enough to listen to our concerns and made helpful suggestions as to what avenues we could explore.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best for the future and hope that you will continue to represent us." - Susan Hutton, constituent"I have found Crispin to be a hard working colleague and very committed to his constituency work, too.
He adds a good deal. He also has the courage to speak his mind. I very much hope he is able to continue to do so.
" - Andrew Tyrie MP"Having worked closely with Crispin on a range of issues that affect both our constituencies, I have grown to respect Crispin a great deal. He is a dedicated and committed colleague who stands up for his constituents, and I hope that he will have the opportunity to continue to do so for many years to come. " - Sam Gyimah MP"The vote of the Executive Council of the Reigate Conservative Association frankly horrified me.
As I believe you know, I have never been a member of a political party and I do not intend to change this. I am interested in my MP working hard for his constituency and you have shown that you do just that. If you are a candidate for re-election, I shall vote for you.
On the other hand, if you are deselected, I cannot guarantee that I shall vote for the Conservative candidate. Under those circumstances, I would vote for the candidate I think would make the best constituency MP." - Ernest Simon, constituent"I write to totally support your being returned as the Conservative candidate for Reigate 2015. I am appalled that a small (apparently nameless) group from the Executive council should act in this way.
You are so widely respected as our local MP and have always been seen as approachable and very active on behalf of all your constituents and it was most encouraging to see you supporting so many local events over the years.
I have two specific matters over which you have been most helpful - firstly the battle over the Orange mast on the railway embankment alongside Bassett Drive, when you went to a great deal of meetings with Orange executives and our local representatives and also raised the situation in Parliament. Secondly you gave very valuable help when we sought your advice in an awards application.
Your interest in the individual, your patience and skilled support and positive interventions have been greatly valued. You know the area and understand our local needs and we want you to continues as MP for Reigate." - Barbara Wing, constituent"I will clearly endorse you as my choice for selection to represent Reigate in 2015.
I think the way you have been treated is disgraceful. Yes I know of your circumstances but in any other job it would be illegal to 'sack' you.
Good luck. I hope the wider membership have more sense the the executive." - Ray Markham, constituent"I am most grateful for the help you have given me - I now have two hearing aids instead of just one. I can attest to the fact that you are both hard working and effective." - John Eccles, constituent"I would like to thank you for your personal intervention on our family's behalf on more than one occasion during your term as Member for Reigate.
Our family fully supports your standing once again for Reigate in the 2015 elections." - Robin Hendy, constituent"I just thought I would drop you a short note to say how very sorry I was to hear of your difficulties in Reigate. You have always been extremely kind and thoughtful to me during my brief time in the House of Commons.
Your advice and common sense has been (and continues to be) invaluable. Your knowledge of the prisons and judicial system is invaluable. " - Oliver Colvile MP"16 months ago my home got burnt down through no fault if my own. Crispin and his fantastic secretary Theresa could not do enough to help me and my family, liaising with local authorities, housing association and many others. He kept us updated whilst we were homeless, every step of the way, and we were very promptly rehomed with minimum fuss to enable us to recover from out trauma. I would like to say that I am not a conservative supporter under normal circumstances but I would vote for Crispin every time just so we could have someone as efficient, kind and helpful as our local MP. It is very valuable and we are very lucky to have a person of such humanity and care as our MP. I say all of this not only based on my own experiences but that of others I know also who have been helped by Crispin and his team. I personally don't know where myself and my family would be now without his help. Kind regards. H Killner (local resident)." - Helen Killner, constituent"Not only is Crispin a first class Member of Parliament, but he is one of the nicest and genuine people in politics I know. At a time when public faith in politicians is at a low level, we need more people like Crispin serving their constituents and our country. He has my wholehearted support." - Annesley Abercorn, London European Candidate"I was extremely pleased with the very rapid response to my request for assistance. The outcome of my problem was very positive and I feel sure that if it was not for your help and support it would not have been resolved as swiftly. Many thanks." - Michael Price"In my experience, Crispin Blunt has always been a very effective campaigner on behalf of his constituents - bringing knowledge, experience and tenacity to bear." - Greg Clark MP"I would like to give my support to Crispin. He is an excellent
local MP always ready to help the community if possible, also a
great help to us on a personal matter some years ago." - Gillian Dorothy Packham"I would like to express my profound gratitude for your help and support last summer. I have no doubt that your strong support for my case had a very positive impact on the outcome.
The speed with which your responded and the continuous support that you provided made me realise how much effort and energy you put into your constituency work.
I hope that you would continue to represent us in the future.
Yasmin Tavassoly" - Yasmin Tavassoly"I have known Crispin since before his election to the Commons and have worked with him throughout his time as an MP. He is always assiduous in taking up the concerns of his constituents, clear in speaking out about the causes in which he believes and courteous to political allies and opponents alike. I hope that he will be in the Commons again after the 2015 election." - Rt Hon David Lidington MP"I completely support Mr. Blunt after his unwarranted and disgraceful de-selection by the local Conservative Association. In my opinion he is an excellent constituency MP with a splendid record in helping local people and attending local events. I have personally asked for his help on two occasions in the last few years and was delighted to received it promptly and effectively. I sincerely hope the members of the local conservative party will vote to back him in his endeavour to be re-selected." - Gillian Crawley"Crispin has solidly demonstrated himself to be a diligent and committed MP for this constituency. He has my full support in his campaign for re-selection, and I look forward to working together with him for a Conservative victory in 2015." - Cllr. Simon Parnall"I wish to show my support (and echo some of the comments on this site) for Crispin. As a constituent I had cause to seek his advice and help with a matter a few years ago and he acted in a most competent and professional manner - resolving the issue quickly and clearly working hard to find resolution. I would recommend his re-election. " - Dr Simon Carlino"As a party member in the constituency, I can assure Crispin of my vote when the time comes - and at the General Election after he is nominated. An excellent constituency MP and a man of courage and conviction. " - Alastair Clegg"Please add my name to the list of those who see Mr Blunt as being a hard working MP who has the courage and integrity to represent his constituents conscientiously. This is in the context of balancing party and personal positions on specific policy issues. If only more MP's were like him politics in general would be in much better shape!" - Joseph Simpson"I hugely admire the bravery of Crispin in coming out. Small minded homophobia should not stand in the way of a great constituency MP who is prepared to stand up for his community and his principles. The Conservative party needs to banish the sort of views that have led to Crispin's deselection back to the 50s and continue to embrace fair and open minded policies. " - Jane Clegg"If this good man is not suitable to be our
MP then goodness knows what sort of person they would deem preferable. " - Derek Ormond"My dealings with Mr Blunt have always delivered a positive outcome therefore I see no reason as to why he should not be retained as the Conservative candidate for Reigate at the next general election" - Andrew Couchman"I have know Crispin for many years as a colleague and as a friend. We have worked together on a number of issues for the Party, but in particular on the enormously important work the Party carries out in the Middle East. The Conservative Middle East Council was formed under Margaret Thatcher, 33 years ago but, in 2005 it was starting to flag. With David Cameron's support, Crispin not only out it back on its feet, but made it into a professional and well respected organisation, both within and outside the Party. The work that CMEC undertook in the five years leading up to the 2010 General Election was instrumental in the excellent relationship the Government now enjoys with the region." - The Baroness Morris of Bolton OBE DL"I have known Crispin Blunt for over fifteen years and know him to be an excellent MP for Reigate. He works tirelessly for his constituents. His military background has been very useful in Parliament during a period when there were few MPs with military experience. In addition to looking after his constituents, he has had the added responsibility of being Shadow Minister in Opposition and, of course, was a Minister in the Ministry of Justice in an extremely difficult post. He is a thoughtful politician, not always taking the easy route. I know him best because of his interest in foreign affairs but he has played a significant role in promoting Britain’s interests in the Middle East. I hope he will continue in Westminster as MP for Reigate for many years to come." - The Rt Hon the Lord Lamont of Lerwick"It goes without saying that Crispin has my wholehearted support in seeking not only re-adoption as the Conservative Party candidate for 2015 but also to be Reigate’s MP again. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Crispin for several years, his commitment on behalf of constituents whatever their political persuasion has always been consistent and persistent as demonstrated by the volume of support he has received in recent weeks.
Crispin is a straight forward politician, happy to put others and the bigger picture before personal interest. It would be incredibly narrow minded and unfortunate were the self-interest of a small group of individuals to deprive Reigate of an excellent representative so I hope the broader membership offer their overwhelming support to you in the coming weeks.
" - Andy Mountney, Former Chairman of the Reigate and Banstead Conservative Association "I have had occasion to work with Crispin Blunt both with his interest in foreign affairs and more recently during his time at the Ministry of Justice. I have always found Crispin straightforward and honourable in expressing his views. I have no hesitation in describing him as a vigorous and effective Member of Parliament." - The Rt Hon the Lord Hurd of Westwell CH CBE"I have known Crispin for the best part of two decades since he was Special Adviser at the Ministry of Defence. He has always been a doughty and eloquent champion of Conservative values and principles, a forthright and sturdy ambassador for the people of Reigate, and a most dependable, valued and trusted colleague in all the roles he has performed so well for our Party. " - Lord Black of Brentwood"Crispin, it has been a real privilege to work with you ever since 1997. You are a real team player and a very hard-working MP. Your constituents are very fortunate to have you respresenting them. You are also a very nice bloke." - Rt.Hon. John Randall MP"I have always regarded Crispin Blunt as able and conscientious even though I have not always agreed with his views.
I am sure he still has much to offer the Reigate Constituency and the House of Commons." - Lord (Michael) Howard of Lympne"I have been privileged to know Crispin for 8 years, mainly through his diligent work and enthusiastic involvement in the field of foreign affairs.
When I was enobled as a Peer in 2006, I approached Crispin for guidance on certain issues and always found him very obliging and willing to help. He is a kind man of an extremely pleasant disposition and maintains a sense of sincerity sometimes taken for granted in politics.
From a professional point of view, I always found him to be extremely knowledgeable and fair in his assessments; he maintained a good grasp of problems and always suggested equitable solutions. In particular, he has always been very keen for an Israeli-Palestinian settlement.
Crispin is also to be appreciated for organising the infamous cricket matches between British Parliamentarians and those from abroad. These kind of light-hearted engagements help to build relationships and foster better understanding between people of different countries and cultures.
He is a good man, a good politician and a fine representative for the Conservative Party, and I would certainly suggest he is retained as Member of Parliament.
" - Lord Sheikh"Yes, you were of help in 2005, when a rather unrealistic rent increase was demanded from the Borough Council for commercial property in Cromwell Road, Redhill. However, this dispute is still ongoing regarding the general dilapidation to the area. This is well publicised in the local newspapers. I have had much contact with councellors, Borough Departments etc. and liken this complicated `web`to `wading through treacle` . Add to this web the Reigate Conservative Association and can sympathise with the "wider politics surrounding your position". If offering your constituants what they deserve and actually following this mantra to resolution, then you would deserve to stand again for that privilege. Emma Joyce and P.D.Green (constituents) " - Emma Joyce and P D Green"I am delighted to support Crispin Blunt in his campaign to remain as MP for Reigate. He is one of the most effective and determined parliamentary colleagues in the Party. He and I worked together closely when we were both serving on the House of Commons Defence Select Committee and he has brought his experience from the Army to bear on many occasions. " - Julian Brazier TD MP"Mr Crispin Blunt was an enormous help to us as a family last year, as he was able to fight for us to continue our much needed respite package for our disabled daughter with complex health needs. Thank you and I wish you all the best and would definite approve of you being re-selected." - Mrs Emma Jones"I would like to confirm that without your intervention regarding my state pension, I would still be waiting for it to be resolved.
I really appreciated all the hard work you put into the matter, finally resolving the problem. Without your help, it would have taken a lot longer.
I'm really sad to think that people are trying to get rid of you. You do an excellent job for the people of Reigate and Banstead.
" - Mrs Ann Kelly, constituent"I shall take this opportunity to pay tribute to (Crispin) as a constituency MP, for standing up for people and businesses in Reigate and for knowing that what Reigate needs is what the country needs, which is to stand up for hardworking people and to get more businesses, more jobs and more investment turning our country around." - Rt Hon David Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom"Crispin Blunt is a hard-working level-headed Member of Parliament who is widely respected across the House. I have known Crispin for many years and he has helped my countless times in my political career, both when I was a Member of the European Parliament and especially since I became MP for Daventry in 2010. I have huge respect for him as a person and as a Parliamentarian." - Chris Heaton-Harris MP"I strongly commend Crispin Blunt as MP for Reigate. I first met him in 2004, when he was very helpful to me winning my marginal seat of Hammersmith & Fulham from Labour the following year. He has always been someone who takes the job very seriously, has served the Party with flair and talent, and has always promoted the interests of his Reigate constituents as a constituency MP and as a Government Minister. In my view, he fully deserves to be our candidate in 2015 and beyond." - Greg Hands MP"I entered the House in 1997 with Crispin Blunt MP. Throughout that time he has been an unfailingly helpful and highly effective colleague in the House of Commons. I served with him in the Opposition Whips Office where his efficiency and diligence were well known throughout the House. I also served with him in the last Parliament in the Shadow Home Affairs team where he was Shadow Minister for Security. Here he brought a huge wealth of experience from his former career and was, as ever, an exemplary colleague and team player. It was, therefore, no surprise to me that he was confirmed in 2010 as a Justice Minister." - David Ruffley MP"Crispin,
You have my full support. It is clear from the time that I have known you that you are an incredibly hardworking MP who stands up for his constituents.
" - David Davies"I have known Crispin Blunt 1994 as a special adviser to Malcolm Rifkind, as Secretary of State for Defence, and further as an MP and Shadow minister during the long dark years after 1997. We served again together as Ministers post 2010 and in all those roles I can state that Crispin was principled, assiduous and effective. It has always been a pleasure to work alongsde him and long my he continue to serve Reigate and his country as a Member of Parliament" - Lord Henley"Crispin has my full support. I believe that he has done a fine job for us all and should continue as our MP." - Terence Denis Keen"We contacted the Mr. Blunt for help in a difficult situation in which there was our family. The response to our request was immediate and very professional. Our situation has dramatically changed for the better since our visit to the office of Mr. Blunt. So far, the assistant of Mr. Blunt's communication with our family and provide all possible support and assistance. We hope he will be re-elected as MP for the next term. " - Volodymyr and Halyna Honchar"It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with Crispin as both a friend and a collegaue. He always works to the very highest standards and always stands up for what he knows is right. Crispin has my unreserved support. " - Anne Milton MP"I have known Crispin since being elected in 2010 and think he is a superb representative for Reigate. He speaks up frequently for his local issues and also on Armed Forces and many other matters. I wholeheartedly support his re--selection." - Claire Perry"Crispin is a first class MP and a much valued colleague." - Karen Bradley MP"I had a family problem a few years ago and mr crispin blunt took the time to make his views known to a rather unhelpful government sponsored organisation, which I appreciated. Hopefully we are not to be landed with a Boris Johnson!" - eddie elgar"A couple of years ago I needed advise regarding a schooling problem that I felt very strongly about. It was suggested that I contact my local MP and ask him. Having never gone down this road, I was some what nervous to say the least !
How wrong could I have been ? From the moment I contacted my MP's office, to my meeting with Crispin, to his guidance, and finally the follow up from his team, I was most impressed.
Unfortunately my reply from the Ministry of Education was as expected, but I, with the help of Crispin Blunt, made my point of dissatisfaction over a certain area.
Since then, Crispin has shown support in other matters concerning proposed planning applications.
I support Crispin Blunt for re-selection." - Michael Harvey"I have been a colleague of Crispin’s since 1997. He has been a consistently thoughtful, conscientious and effective Member of parliament, both for his constituents in Reigate and his Party. During my term as Secretary of State for Health, I especially recall his dedicated work to secure helpful interventions at Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust and East Surrey Hospital Hospital, which I know had a big impact." - Rt Hon Andrew Lansley CBE MP"I am writing to express my support for Crispin Blunt in his re-adoption as parliamentary candidate for Reigate.
Crispin is an excellent Member of Parliament and always eager to collaborate with his Conservative colleagues. In opposition, he always made valuable contributions in the chamber and I was very pleased to see his hard work rewarded when he was appointed as a junior minister in the Ministry of Justice after the most recent general election.
Crispin and I don't agree on everything, but he has my unqualified support for reselection and indeed re-election. I have been proud to sit in the Commons on the same benches as he does and it would be a serious loss to the House were we to be deprived of his contribution and service.
I look forward to many more years of working alongside Crispin here in Westminster, and trust the members of the Association in Reigate will make the right decision." - Sir Edward Leigh MP"Since my election in 2010, it has been a pleasure to work alongside Crispin. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience on issues ranging from Justice to Business to Defence, and is a true advocate for Reigate. Crispin is and has always been a patriotic and dedicated servant of our country, as an Army Officer, a Minister, and a backbench MP, and I firmly believe we need more people like him in our Parliament, not less. I very much hope to see him back here after 2015." - Jack Lopresti MP"Crispin Blunt and I entered the House as Surrey MPs at the same time. Over the last 16 years, we have worked together on many Surrey-wide issues of concern to our respective constituents.
Throughout this period, Crispin has always been diligent in promoting his constituents’ interests and tireless in pursuing the various public and private service providers in Surrey to ensure proper delivery of the services our constituents need.
As a constituency-focussed MP, Crispin provides a great service to the people of Reigate and I hope Reigate Conservatives will support him to continue delivering for his constituents.
" - Rt Hon Philip Hammond, Secretary of State for Defence"I would like to commend the work of Crispin Blunt MP for Reigate.
During the past year we have sought his support in rectifying some unfair actions we have had to face in connection with our business.
Due to his efforts with his team to support our case, I am pleased to state things are being resolved.
Looking forward, we would like to see Mr Blunt continue as our MP in future years. " - R.T. Canaway, constituent"I have just heard about the re-selection process that has been initiated in Reigate.I must say I was more than a little surprised - distressed even.
Others will be better placed than I am to comment on your work as a constituency member. But so far as Parliament is concerned I can say without hesitation that your work and commitment combined with your loyalty to the Party are an example which we simply cannot afford to lose.
As you know I spent nearly 10 years in the Whips office under Margaret Thatcher and I have to say that the way in which you manage to combine loyalty to our cause without giving up your own thinking is exactly what we need in the Parliamentary Party.
" - Rt Hon the Lord Garel-Jones"I support Crispin Blunt and hope he will be re-selected for 2015.
" - Lesely Nicholson"I worked with Crispin on national security issues and I can testify to the active and constructive interest that he took in them. Pauline Neville-Jones " - Pauline Neville-Jones "I was Chief Executive of The Children’s Trust at Tadworth for twenty years until my retirement in April 2013 and I have known Crispin Blunt since 1997 when he was first elected as MP for Reigate & Banstead. The Trust employs over 500 nurses and carers and other staff and many of them live in the constituency. Crispin was quick to take an interest in the specialised work of the Trust for some of the most disabled children in the country. He supported the charity’s fundraising and events to honour long-serving staff and was always readily approachable when asked for an opinion on questions of national policy. When it seemed that some aspects of the Trust’s work might be disadvantaged by changes in the NHS he gave me an undertaking that he would ensure our case was represented at the highest level. As good as his word, he wrote personally to the then Secretary of State for Health to explain our position. I have known Crispin to be a man of integrity and personal charm with a nice sense of humour. I think the members of Reigate & Banstead Conservative Association would do well to let him continue to represent them." - Andrew Ross OBE"It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge your help in dealing with the issue raised with you a while ago; your response was prompt and demonstrated your active efforts in dealing efficiently with my request; I have lived in your Constituency for years now and have enjoyed your quietly confident support in making our lives better." - Luana Hartley, constituent"Crispin was an outstanding Minister for Prisons and helped me hugely when I wrote my book on prison reform, Doing Time. I had never met Crispin before 2010 when I got elected.
He is genuine, he is hardworking and he thinks problems through. He has my complete support" - Guy Opperman, MP for Hexham"I asked for some help with a problem and the response I got was very fast and helpful.
Many Thanks" - Paul Mcbride"I cannot thank Crispin and his team enough for their support and relentless endeavours to help myself and fellow residents of Hazel Way, Chipstead in a battle against Network Rail. The Council had given up on us and Crispin despite a failed attempt, got his team behind the cause and succesfully acheived a result which mean that we can now fully enjoy our property without the noise and disturbance from the transformer substation. Thanks again Crispin and Teresa for your pro activity which acheived such a wonderful result that all the residents are really happy with. " - Charlotte Stainton"Mr Blunt and his team were extremely supportive of my son when we were forced to remove him form a local primary school due to escalating violent episodes from fellow pupils which the school teachers and governors choose to ignore. He has pledged his support in ensuring my son was sent to a more appropriate school and wrote to the new school explaining the problems we had encountered.
Mr Blunt has been speedy in his responses and always very professional.
I wish to pledge my support for him." - Fiona Bickell"Having had the pleasure of knowing Crispin for three-and-a-half years, he has always been approachable, knowledgeable and down to Earth. Crispin is an outstanding local MP; whether it is successfully helping to save the Reigate Post Office, campaigning to protect the greenbelt, responding to letters, or resisting house building, Crispin knows the local issues and makes our concerns known in Parliament. Crispin’s has my complete backing for re-selection, and I hope he stays the Member of Parliament for Reigate for many years to come!" - Sam Fry"Crispin is an outstanding Conservative politician and an excellent representative of Reigate constituency. He deserves our continued support. " - Sergei Cristo"Crispin has been a formidable colleague in tackling the problems of homelessness, particularly for those leaving prison with no reliable place to go." - David Freud"Mr Blunt has been an excellent constituency MP and helped me in matters which concerned me." - Dr Trevor Watts"As a constituent in Mr Blunt's ward i would like you all to be aware of how dedicated he was in supporting me when i needed his help.
He is a man of the people, who truly takes the time to assist and listen to a persons problems and difficulties, and tries to solve these matters with relentless vigour.
I cannot thank him enough." - Jack Greeley"I have approached Mr Blunt on 2 occasions during the past 10 years - on both occasions it was in connection with my late husband who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. On both occasions, thanks to his practical support I was able to continue my husband's medication and then, thanks to his intervention, I finally received the monies due to me from Surrey County Council due to the backdating of his continuing care. I remain very grateful for his support. " - Mrs Sheila Lesley Carr"I have seen at first hand how Crispin stands up for his constituents. He is also a respected and popular parliamentarian who is never afraid to say what he believes is right." - Richard Benyon MP"I have known Crispin throughout by time in Parliament, and worked with him both in opposition and then as fellow Ministers in the Government. He is a dedicated, hard working and thoroughly honourable colleague and a very effective fighter for Reigate. I hope very much that he will be able to continue to represent the constituency after the next election: he is a much respected colleague and a credit to our Party." - Bob Neill MP, Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party, responsible for Local Government"Working for Crispin as his researcher, 1999-2001, was a fantastic experience - I saw at first hand how he worked tirelessly on behalf of and in the interests of his constituents. I witnessed how his commitment to the job of representing the people of Reigate and Banstead was backed up by hard work and discipline, but based on careful reflection and calm consideration. Crispin deserves credit and support." - Andrew Hollingsworth"I am willing to write with some conviction to say that, on more than one occasion,I have had cause to write to you as my local MP,and you have.to my way of thinking, responded with both interest and alacrity to my concerns. The most recent time was.I recall.about 12 months' ago, when I furnished you with photographic evidence (plus a supporting account)of persistent litter in a public place in Banstead, and at the same time I recounted to you something of the problem I had met when attempting to persuade the
Borough Council to use its powers to to bring this problem to an end.
Whilst your efforts on my behalf, which included at least two letters to a Borough Councillor(neither of which drew a reply, which speaks volumes for the interest,or lack of same, displayed by such
persons )were unsuccessful, you did try hard to assist in what could be a minor matter in the scheme of things, and for that I was most grateful, and remain so.
On the several occasions you have canvassed on the doorstep at the time of a General Election. My wife and I have found you patient and interested in what we had to say,and on one of these you went away, and followed up our discussion with a letter of clarification.I wonder how many other MP's would display a similar level of commitment towards their constituents?" - Antony Verdie, constituent"In my view, I am dismayed by the proposed actions of some of our committee. I am perfectly satisfied by your performance as our MP and if our association has the courtesy to co consult the members, I shall be voting for your reselection.
I am sorry you are having to deal with this unpleasantness and I have to pose the question - what message does this send to the general electorate?" - Julian Brett, Constituent"We are three pensioners living in a small block of retirement flats. Over the last two years we have been severely tormented by a resident who should not be living here as he is not a pensioner and has extreme learning difficulties. We tried on many occasions through the correct channels to get some satisfaction not just for ourselves but for the person in question. This has been an uphill struggle which seriously affected our health and the ONLY help we received was from you and your secretary Theresa, which we know involved you both in a lot hard work. This man is still living here but we have not had any more trouble since you intervened, for which we sincerely thank you. We wish you well and hope you realise your ambitions, especially as we may need you again in the near future. " - Ms Joan Millard, Mrs Irene Humphrey & Mrs. Gwen Bailey"I have reason to thank Crispin Blunt for helping me, as a volunteer adviser, when I collected a parking ticket. I had stopped briefly at the rear of the CAB to collect papers to help a client in court facing repossession. Mr Blunt wrote a letter of support on my behalf in which he showed how he valued the work of volunteers in the community. Although unsuccessful in my appeal against the parking penalty, I felt grateful to have the help of my MP in what was a fairly minor matter but one that I felt was unfair and unnecessary. " - Thelma Lay (constituent)"I have known Crispin Blunt for many years. There is no doubt that Reigate Conservatives will not find a more qualified, intelligent and experienced representative to serve their Constituents, and represent them on local, national and international matters. How excellent was his thought process on the recent Syria matter irrespective of where you stood on the matter. I am surprised that Crispin is forced to go through this process possibly due to issues relating to his private life. Therefore I urge all of you to allow Crispin to represent you after the next elections. Reigate Conservatives are lucky to be represented by Crispin." - Sigurdur Baldvin Sigurdsson"Mr Blunt is an excellent MP and there is simply no equal to him in our constituency. When I met him, I found him to be kind, considerate and above all genuinely concerned to try and help one of his constituents with the utmost professionalism.
Mr Blunt in my mind is an outstanding MP and Reigate and the surrounding area should be honoured to have him represent us." - Mick Hay, constituent"Mr Blunt has helped me twice when I had problems with Reigate and Banstead Council without his help I would have been left out of pocket and feeling pretty miserable I commend Crispin Blunt for the help he has given me as my MP anyone who thinks he does not deserve another term is living in a dream world. !!!!!" - Jamie Dixon, constituent"I was very surprised and saddened to hear about the difficulties you have been facing in your reselection as the Conservative Candidate at the next General Election in your Reigate constituency. I sincerely hope you are able to overcome this and continue to serve with distinction for the Party and your constituents in Parliament .
In our sixteen and a half together in Parliament you have always struck me as a loyal and assiduous supporter of the Party both in Opposition and Government, no less so after we both left the Front Bench last year. You have always spoken up strongly for the interests of your constituents in Parliament and your contributions to debates and legislation in the areas of defence and foreign affairs in particular are always widely respected and listened to. It would be a great loss to the Party and your constituents if you were unable to continue representing them in the vigorous and proactive way you have always done so up to now.
" - Tim Loughton MP"I have had the occasion to request the support of Crispin Blunt in relation to a personal situation I was experiencing a few years back, where a member of my family was being treated unfairly. I did get a response from Crispin Blunt who stated that I was to write to him again should the situation not improve and that he would take up the matter personally on my behalf. I was able to sort the matter out myself in the end but would have had no hesitation in contacting Crispin Blunt had this not been the case as I felt he genuinely wanted to help me in any way he could." - Christine Elsey"I had cause to seek advise from Mr Blunt, a more pleasant and kinder man I could not have met. As I saw it, he (and his back room staff) were most professional and courteous but more to the point, Mr Blunt listened to my point and advised accordingly. A short time later, he posted me correspondence from a colleague he had lobbied on my behalf, asking if there was any more he could do for me. Certainly I felt Mr Blunt had worked for me as he was my link to Senior Ministers in the Cabinet. Over and above Mr Blunts parliamentary duties, I felt Mr Blunt to be considerate and kind natured with a genuine concern for one of his constituents. Sadly through no fault of his own, he has attracted adverse publicity due to his private life - why people are attracted to such is beyond me. Mr Blunt is a fine man, a good man with a good heart. He represents our constituency with a passion and enthusiasm our constituency has never seen. In my view, there is no equal to him and there is no doubt that Mr Blunt should be supported fervently for the benefit of our constituency. " - Mr M Hay"Crispin has been most helpful to us as our local MP.
This has been both personally and in particularly during his time as President of the Reigate Society when he was always available and supportive of the aims of the Society.
We shall be voting for him if, as we hope, he is our candidate for the 2015 election. " - Michael & Mary Hellings"I’ve known Crispin for many years as an outstanding colleague, MP, Minister and friend.
He has dedicated his life to serving his Party, Country and Constituency with distinction and principle , both in Parliament and in the Armed Forces. I hope he continues to do so after the next election." - Rt Hon George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer"From my own particular interest in defence matters, I have always appreciated the contribution that you have been able to make from a background of real experience. My concern about the Commons is how few of the current members have real experience of things outside politics, the narrow channel up which they have progressed has too often been - University Conservative - Researcher - Special Adviser - Candidate.
You are one of the few with a good background outside and the added advantage of hard ministerial experience in a very tough area. It is very much what is needed in the Commons now in the very tough world that we face." - The Rt Hon the Lord King of Bridgwater CH"I first met Crispin when he was a Parliamentary candidate in the West Midlands. He impressed me by his diligence, determination and good humour and these were qualities which were much in evidence when he entered the House of Commons in 1997.
He quickly made his mark as an active and effective MP, popular with his colleagues and always eager to advance the interests of his constituency and to serve his constituents.
I left the House of Commons, after 40 years service, in 2010 but I know how far he has been widely regarded as a competent minister and that he has continued to enjoy the respect and confidence of his colleagues.
I hope he will be able to play a part in Parliament for some years to come." - Rt Hon the Lord Cormack DL FSA"I would certainly support your reselection and would in particular your important work as Minister for Prisons and the manner in which you represent your constituents here. " - Jeremy Lefroy MP"I wholeheartedly support Crispin Blunt MP’s re-adoption as the Parliamentary Candidate for Reigate in 2015. He is an excellent parliamentarian and a good friend whose military background and in-depth knowledge of the foreign affairs, defence and justice briefs have been a real asset to the Conservative Party and to critical debates that are taking place on the floor of the House today. I would also salute his moral courage both at home and in Parliament, where he is never afraid to swim against the tide in order to do what he feels is best for his constituents and for the country. I am disappointed to hear that Crispin cannot count on the backing of all in the Reigate Conservative Association, and I hope he is successful in his campaign to win the support of the majority of local Conservatives" - Rt Hon Richard Ottaway MP"It has been a pleasure to work with you in Government and Parliament. It is crucially important that we represent the country as it is - there is no other way. Reigate can be proud of their voice in Parliament." - Chloe Smith MP"I am writing to express my support for you to be re-selected as Parliamentary Candidatefor Reigate.
As you know our Parliamentary paths have crossed on many occasions and I have respected your dedication and commitment to the Party and national interest. Mostly we
have been on the same side, particularly in the field of justice issues, together in the Shadow Justice team and then supporting the good work you did as Justice Minister.
We have also been on different sides of the debate on issues like same sex marriage. As the leader of the Parliamentary opposition to same sex marriage we have a fundamental disagreement about this legislation, but I respect your view as I know you respect mine. One of the characteristics of the debate was the free vote on this issue of conscience and the open debate we held in the Conservative Party. A significant number of members in my association, including executive members, did not agree with my views on same sex marriage but respected my right as an MP to speak and vote according to my conscience.
I recall during the passing of the legislation, you were particularly concerned with responding to issues raised by your constituents, by for example supporting possible amendments which would avoid the State redefining marriage.
Finally, I was surprised to hear about your re-selection challenge at this time because, since your return to the backbenches, it is clear that you have been working hard in Parliament. You have fully taken advantage of your freedom to speak up on many significant issues facing your constituents and our country." - David Burrowes MP"I was absolutely shocked to discover that you may not be allowed to stand as the Conservative candidate for Reigate at the 2015 general election.
I am 73 years of age and my husband is 79 and we have both voted Conservative for as long as we have been able to vote and wherever we have lived, I can honestly say that we have never had such a helpful and kind Conservative Member of Parliament. You are the only MP that we have known that has had the courtesy to knock on our door to hear our views and opinions and you have helped us tremendously on several matters when we have sought your time and assistance. In the past, if we have written to an MP who was supposed to be representing us, we have either been completely ignored or received a bland and impersonal reply.
We feel so strongly about the intended snub to all your good work and service that we intend sending a copy of this to Mr David Cameron, adding that if you are not allowed to stand at the next election we will be unable to vote Conservative after a lifetime of support." - Barbara and Bernard Beckless, constituents"I have known Crispin since he was elected to the House in 1997, and worked with him when he was a minister in the Ministry of Justice and I was Leader of the House. He was a highly competent minister, who took his responsibilities seriously and was always well-briefed in the speeches he gave.
We both left the government last year but I subsequently returned as Chief Whip. I welcome the contributions that Crispin makes from the backbenches, and I also welcome the support which he has given to the coalition government in the division lobbies. I very much hope that he is able to contest
his seat again, and support the next Conservative administration." - Rt Hon Sir George Young Bt CH MP, Government Chief Whip"An excellent MP, certainly in constituency and by all reports in Westminster also, as made very clear by both constituents and fellow MPs in their very numerous messages on Facebook. Our executive committee failure to reselect him without giving any reasons and cause all the negative publicity and the necessity of a n association wide ballot is incomprehensible and far from good "democracy".. I sincerely hope this will all be corrected by a resounding majority to reselect Crispin in the ballot very shortly when all this can be put behind us. " - Tony Geddes"Pfizer has greatly appreciated the support we get from Crispin Blunt. He understands the challenges we face as an industry, and he has been active as our constituency MP in Parliament, raising our issues with Ministers. Jonathan Emms, Managing Director, Pfizer UK" - Jonathan Emms, Managing Director, Pfizer UK"You may remember that I contacted your PA in November last
year about the problem that the Chiltons Close Residents Association (of which I am secretary) was having with the Highways Department of Surrey County Council. Our Association was trying to start the process of making the Close a private road. We first
wrote to them in the summer of 2012 but in spite of phone calls, emails and letters therewas no sign of our being able to start this process. On the advice of your PA we sent you copies of all the communications between us and SCC,and asked if you could get some action from their Highways Department.
You read through the voluminous correspondence and communicated with the relevant senior person in SCC very quickly. Within about two weeks of our writing to you, we received a letter from them telling us we could start the process. I think that without your help we might still be waiting for some action from Scc.
I have also written to you on two or three other occasions asking if you would vote in a particular way on a bill that was going through the House. You always replied courteously giving the reasons for the way you intended to vote - even though it was usually not the way I had suggested!
I am not a natural supporter of the Conservative party but there is no doubt that for us you have been an excellent constituency MP." - Mich and Suzy Duggan, constituents"My problem concerned the cost of long term care for my wife who was suffering from the debilitating effects of rheumatoid arthritis.
I appreciated you getting the Rt Hon Sir Malcolm Rifkind to look into
this matter and his reply which you sent to me was detailed, informative and enlightening. So I have no hesitation whatsoever in continuing to support you as my Member of Parliament for Reigate." - Edward Macintyre, constituent"I have known Crispin for 20 years ever since I served as a Defence Minister and he was Malcolm Rifkind’s special adviser. For all that time we have found ourselves working closely together on international, national and local issues including the middle east, defence and the on-going campaign to protect our constituencies being devastated by the consequences of doubling the size of Gatwick airport. On all these issues I couldn’t have wished for a more effective and determined colleague to have alongside. Over the years Crispin has become a good friend as well as a great advocate for all the causes we have in common. I sincerely hope Reigate Conservatives give Crispin the chance to continue his work on their behalf. Any other outcome would be quite bizarre." - Rt Hon Nicholas Soames MP"Crispin Blunt has been helping myself and my company with regard to a review of the Retail Export Scheme being carried out by HMRC. I have found Crispin to be responsive, willing and very helpful." - Chris Parkin, constituent"I was surprised to hear that your association's executive council had not supported your re-adoption as the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Reigate at the next general election. I hope very much, however, that you will persuade members of your association to support your candidacy. You are an industrious, intelligent and compassionate Member of Parliament who cares deeply about issues that affect your constituents as well as important national and international issues. You play an important part in the political life of the House of Commons. I also believe your approach to politics makes you a candidate that will attract strong support in a general election campaign.
In my view, you were a first rate Prisons Minister. I saw this first hand in the way you responded to the problems at Ford Prison in my constituency in 2011. Your energetic and swift action helped enormously and I am grateful to you for that.
In recent months we have both served on the Joint Scrutiny Committee on Prisoner Voting where your experience and insight have added weight to the committee's deliberations.
I wish you every success in the forthcoming ballot." - Nick Gibb MP"A few years ago I had cause to seek Crispin Blunt's help when my wife needed hospital treatment. Due to his intervention, my wife was quickly seen and obtained the necessary treatment without further undue delay. I shall always be grateful for his help.
I have also had reason to write to him concerning matters relating to the estate where I live, and he has always been helpful in resolving the issues.
From my point of view, I regard him as a very good constituency MP. Although I am not a member of the local Conservative Association, I have supported Crispin Blunt in all past elections, and I very much hope that I shall be able to do so in 2015." - Morris Smith"I am writing this letter to say thank you very much for your help and support during the family crisis I had early this year.
Although a British citizen, I was born in Syria and still have almost all my family in Syria. Early this year I lost a few relatives after a huge explosion in my town. That catastrophe made me very anxious and depressed not knowing what to do or who to speak to. It was very supportive to receive your call to offer your help in this matter. The information you provided me was very useful about on-going activities to support Syria and I managed to attend some of them and to express my views and opinion about the humanity crisis in Syria.
I was very pleased to have this valued support from our local MP. It made me feel that I am secured and protected.
" - Dr Hanadi Asalieh, Acute Medicine consultant physician, East Surrey Hospital "Crispin is a dedicated MP and parliamentarian and I fully support his re-selection as the Parliamentary Candidate for Reigate. I very much hope he is once again given the chance to serve his constituents with the same dedication and tenacity as he has done in his long and distinguished career of public service both in Government and on the backbenches." - George Freeman MP"Crispin is a hardworking constituency MP. Since 1997, he has successfully represented Reigate in the House of Commons. I worked with Crispin when he served as a Special Advisor, his wealth of experience and passion for the job are clear in everything he does." - David Rutley MP"Crispin has been an excellent MP in the house. He is always forthright in standing up in Parliament and speaking out for his constituents. He is a valued colleague and I wish him well." - Elizabeth Truss MP"I have known Crispin for many years. When I ran a pre school playgroup that was in difficulty looking for a location he helped in the search an there after came to our annual sports day.
In my role as District Commissioner for Reigate Priory Girlguiding and later Division Commissioner for Reigate Girlguiding he was happy to be our Ambassador ,and happy to support the Guide Association in the area in any way he could. He is always interested in what is going on and as we have over 2000 girls and women in guiding in the area we appreciate his support. I totally support Crispin's re-selection." - Roo (aka Diana) Harmer"I would like to express my sincere appreciation for all of the help and action which Mr Blunt has taken as my MP. I have visited Mr Blunt at his surgeries and been intouch with him our a number of matters over the past 10 years in which he has proved himself to be very knowlegeble, hardworking, reliable and an effectve member of parliament for the Reigate constituency. I would therefore ask that he is reselected on the basis of his past record and for all of the good work which he has done over many years for his constituents." - martin kay"As a near neighbour MP am pleased to support Crispin who in my experience has always been a diligent contributor in the Commons." - Henry Smith MP (Crawley)"I have found you to be an excellent MP. Hard working, sensitive and always ready to make a contribution to any request within your remit.
It is a sad thing that others "politics" can intrude into what is already a very sound, well tried and established relationship between yourself and your constituents.
It would be utterly foolish for anyone to consider an alternative and changing a winning game. It risks jeopardising the vote of many who want you to remain as their MP.
" - Alison Cox MBE Chief Executive of Cardiac Risk in the Young"There are two qualities that mark out the very best members of parliament, and they are courage and integrity.
I know of nobody in the House who displays these qualities more than Crispin Blunt.
" - Rt Hon David Davis MP"I wrote to Mr Blunt last year as I required his assistance in following up an application made to the home office on behalf of a family member last year, after waiting 12 months and having no response from the home office . I resorted to sending an email to Mr Blunt as the MP for Reigate . I received an acknowledgment within days and also a request for further information to investigate. Within two weeks we received clarification to our enquiry from Mr Blunt.
I was extremely grateful and very impressed with the prompt response. I will be fully supporting Mr Blunt for re-selection as I
firmly believe that he will continue to be advocate for his constituents. Many thanks again. " - Zakia Ameri"Without your help, I would not be getting any new teeth implants from our Health Service. They simply would not answer any of my letters. However they did in short order when you intervened on my behalf. That was the second time you took up cudgels on my behalf with the Health Service. Both times only your help made any difference to the outcome. Both of which were favourable.
You also helped my then teenage son over fifteen years ago with an anti-social behaviour problem he experienced in Redhill.
I believe you do work very hard indeed for your constituents both collectively and individually and I sincerely hope you will remain our MP for long into the future." - Mr R. Davies, Constituent"I have known Crispin for over 10 years now and it has been a privilege to count him as a friend as well as Parliamentary colleague. He has proved to be a loyal and extremely hard-working MP both in the House and to his constituents. I have no hesitation in offering my support for his reselection." - Tobias Ellwood MP"I only have praise for the way Crispin Blunt dealt promptly with my request for assistance. Once he was involved the issue I had raised was referred to a senior level and a resolution was quickly forthcoming, when previously I had been ignored. Thank you." - Janet Browne"Crispin Blunt served in the whip's office between 2004 and 2009 where I was first deputy Chief Whip and then, from 2005, opposition Chief Whip. During this time, Crispin served with absolute professionalism, excellence and loyalty to the Conservative Party. Throughout our time working together, I always knew that I could count on Crispin.
Equally, I know Crispin to be an extremely effective MP who serves his constituents with dedication and integrity. He is a man of principle and a credit to the Conservative Party, to parliament and to the people of Reigate. I greatly hope he will continue to serve Reigate after the 2015 election." - Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin MP"I very much hope that the electors of Reigate will re-elect
Crispin Blunt to Parliament at the next Election.
He was my Junior Minister at the Department of Justice
for over two years and made an extremely valuable
contribution to the work of the Government. I found him
an excellent and loyal colleague to work with and his
opinion was always valuable. I have of course known
Crispin for many years and I believe that my opinion of
him is shared by the vast majority of colleagues in
Parliament." - Rt Hon Kenneth Clarke QC MP"I had a business trip to Africa in 2011 and got my valuables stolen including my traveling documents. On returning to the UK with a temporary entry permit, the Home Office refuses to regularise my documents for about seven months with an excuse that investigation has not been concluded.
I was then introduced to Crispin who promptly stepped in and within a week, UKBA wrote to apologise for the unnecessary delay and promised to get back shortly. With Crispin’s unrelenting efforts, I got all the documents sorted out in less than a month after his intervention.
I have also introduced some of my neighbours within Redhill to him and they have return with good testimonies.
Thank you Crispin Blunt and please keep the good work of supporting your constituency going.
-Sola Oladipo -
" - Sola Oladipo"Crispin Blunt is not only a Parliamentary colleague but also my predecessor as Minister for Prisons and Probation. As a long serving Minister in that role, I know that he is widely respected by those who work with offenders as a Minister who took a genuine and deep interest in the rehabilitation of offenders and a great deal of the policy we are implementing now is based on the work he did." - Jeremy Wright MP"With Crispins support we got through a difficult period in our lives" - Jeffrey Lane"Crispin is an excellent constituency MP who is always there when support is required. He is always willing to help those in need regardless of political persuasion and is always at the forefront when good causes need support. This has been demonstrated recently in his support of the fund raising for Reigate Priory Cricket Club's new pavilion where work has commenced which will enable more people in the community to have access to playing cricket including girls and disabled youngsters." - David Robinson"My name is Jeraldine Magno, a Registered Nurse in East Surrey Hospital. I believe Mr. Crispin Blunt is an excellent MP.I have contacted his office for help and he willingly offered. His support has been of great benefit to myself and I hope he will be given the opportunity to be re-selected for 2015." - Jeraldine Magno"I cannot believe that it even comes into question that Crispin Blunt may not have the opportunity to stand again. I have always gone directly to Crispin Blunt for any help or advice as I know that I will always get a quick response and he will do all he can to resolve any issues. My late Mother also had to contact him in the past and he even went to her home and met her face to face. I sincerely hope that I will still be voting for him in the future." - Catherine Heath"On the occasion I had to contact Mr Blunt and his staff for help I had been having my problem for a while and would like to say that I couldn't have had a more helpful and pleasant experience. Mr Blunt is the MP for Reigate and will receive my vote." - Mrs A Noone"Crispin is an extremely diligent MP, keeping my team of Parliamentary researchers busy as he responds to constituents on policy and casework matters, while also bring his considerable experience in government to a wide range of issues, including campaigning effectively on the national and international stage.
With 150 new MPs on the Conservative benches after the 2010 general election, he is one of the few Members with the depth of experience the Parliamentary Party needs to operate effectively and keep the Opposition at bay on a daily basis in the House. He would be a great loss to the Conservative Party if he were not returned to the House in 2015, hopefully to go on to chair a significant select committee or return to ministerial others once others have had their turn." - Iain Corby, Director Conservative Policy Research Unit"Throughout my time as a minister, Crispin worked tirelessly in advocating the views of his constituents in Reigate. He is a thoroughly hardworking MP and I hope he is returned to the House after the next election." - Rt Hon Michael Fallon MP "I have known Crispin Blunt since he became Special Advisor to the Secretary of State for Defence under whom I had served as a minister.
I saw much of Crispin when he was elected to Reigate in 1997 and I was chairman of the 1922 Committee of backbench MPs. We also met regularly at joint meetings involving both our constituencies of Reigate and Epsom and Ewell.
I always found Crispin to be diligent and concerned about his constituents' interests as well as being a very decent man to work with.
I hope he will continue to represent Reigate in Parliament. He still has much to give and deserves no less. " - Rt Hon Lord Hamilton of Epsom"Crispin Blunt has my full support in his campaign for reselection. His work for his constituents is much underestimated and underrated. The fact that he walloped our bowlers for 87 earlier this year won't deter me from voting for him, either as a Conservative or an Independent. " - william john benton"I write to thankyou as my local Member of Parliament for when you intervened in my dispute with Thames Water to rectify a persistent problem related to the foul water mains drain situated outside my property. On my own I was getting nowhere when you kindly intervened on my behalf, matters were brought to a swift conclusion together with an apology. My thanks for your work on my behalf - this is exactly what I would expect from my local MP, party politics should and did not come into it. " - William A Elliott"I was extremely surprised to learn that you are not to be re-adopted as the Conservative candidate for Reigate without having to go through a full re-selection process. I have no idea why this is so or what your association hopes to achieve by this but from my experience of working with you for the last 17 or 18 years as a fellow Conservative MP, Opposition front bencher and Government minister I find their decision puzzling to say the least.
You have always struck me as a hard working, articulate and dedicated representative of your constituents and the Conservative Party in Westminster and a determined fighter for the civilised causes that you and I and, I thought, the Conservative Party, stood for. You have dealt with issues as varied as prisons and the courts through to British interests in the Middle East and Arab world, you have taken the trouble to travel throughout the country to address and learn from other Conservative constituency associations, not least my own in Harborough, and led delegations to the Middle East and you have experience of life outside Parliament, sadly not something that so many of our colleagues can claim, in the army and business.
If this demand for re-selection has been prompted by your private life I am appalled; the domestic life of an MP should not have anything to do with anyone but the MP and his or her family. I sincerely hope therefore that your record in Parliament and in Reigate will ensure your return to the Commons after the next general election.
" - Sir Edward Garnier QC MP"Crispin has supported Reigate priory cricket club & Local community very well. He is very valuable and helpful MP. full support him." - Brijesh Patel"Crispin was a very effective prisons minister and did a great deal to instil proper work in prisons and secure improvements in the rehabilitation of offenders. Since he left the MoJ, Crispin has been a very effective MP speaking up for Reigate and other important issues in Parliament. Although I was on the other side of the debate myself, I did admire Crispin's speech on the question of military intervention in Syria. I suspect that in that debate he was not only speaking on principle but also on behalf of the majority of his constituents." - Margot James MP"I am writing to support my MP Crispin Blunt.
For three years I had a serious problem with the LSC. The insisted that I owed a sum of money, which was double that of which I was aware on my Legal Aid bill on my present home. I knew this was incorrect.
My case went through two Ombudsmen during this period with an unbelievable amount of correspondence and telephone calls. Eventually I was told that I still owed the said sum of money and that I could take the situation no further. On saying I was still not happy and I knew the sum of money they said I owed it was suggested that I could contact my local MP.
Mr Crispin Blunt was my MP and I arranged a meeting with him and my son. He was most professional and very helpful.
I left him with an outline of the case together with all relevant papers. Within a month Mr Crispin Blunt had contacted Westminster and secured a response that showed their figure was incorrect and I did not owe the figure they were insisting I owed.
My case started at the beginning of January 2010 and has just been finalised.
I felt intense relief and was truly indebted to Mr Crispin Blunt for all his help in what was a very stressful situation." - Penelope Dearing, constituent"I have known Crispin for a number of years as a very effective and much respected Member of Parliament. I hope he will be given the opportunity to continue to stand for re-election in Reigate." - Rt Hon Lord Jenkin"I should be grateful if you would arrange for those concerned to be aware that my view is that it would be a mistake for the Association to do otherwise than re-adopt you." - Rt Hon Lord Goodlad KCMG"Crispin is his own man; that is to say he holds honestly and at times bravely to hid own beliefs. For this he is liked, no to say admired by many of his political contemporaries. It would be sad if the Reigate Conservative Association were for the second time in recent history to deselect an MP of some stature." - Rt Hon Lord Spicer"I moved to Redhill in 2001. I met Crispin soon after while playing for Reigate Priory Cricket Club. I left the area in 2009.
While living in the area I got know Crispin through cricket, and also wrote to him on a number of occasions regarding personal and business matters.
I was (and remain) mightily impressed by his honesty and his willingness to help a constituent.
I couldn't think of anyone better to represent the people of the Reigate constituency.
I do hope that common sense prevails and local conservatives support Crispin in the same way that he has steadfastly supported others." - Andrew Greenfield"I have seen at first hand how much Crispin cares for his Constituency and its people.
He brings a wealth of experience and caring to his work as an MP and I would fully endorse his selection for a further term." - John Waterman"Since being elected to the House of Commons in 2005, I have sought to work on my passion of improving Anglo-Arab relations. As well as being the Chairman of the Libya and Saudi Arabia All Party Parliamentary Groups, I have created and subsequently chair the British Middle East and North Africa Council. There are over 250 MPs and Peers signed up to this group, of which Crispin is one.
This is just one venture of many where I have witnessed Crispin's outstanding commitment to and knowledge of
Middle Eastern affairs. Crispin was the Chairman of the Conservative Middle East Council from 2003 to 2008,
overseeing one of the bodies most successful periods. He was also the joint chair of the Centre for Advancement
of Arab British Understanding (CAABU) from 2004 2009. Most recently, he has completed three trips to Egypt,
showing a genuine commitment to better understand the Egyptian political crisis and working to avert the
collapse of an emerging democracy in that country.
Crispin also led a delegation of the All Party Parliamentary Group for the United Arab Emirates to Dubai and Abu Dhabi that I participated in earlier this year. I was most impressed, as were the rest of my parliamentary
colleagues, with his leadership and knowledge of affairs of the Emirates. This is one of the many reasons why
Crispin has come to be known as an authority in Parliament on Middle Eastern affairs.
As well as his reputation in Parliament, his standing in the Middle East is also well recognised, especially in
business affairs. His passion for UK trade with the Gulf is impressive and he works to instil a better understanding of the region amongst British businesses. At such a crucial time for our country's economy, and with the fragile economies in the Euro Zone, it is crucial we look to secure and expand our markets in other regions of the world, especially in the Gulf. Crispin has real experience and achievements in this area, and I would be disappointed if he were not able to continue this valuable work." - Daniel Kawczynski MP"I am sorry to here that the Executive Council are looking to stop you from standing as our Member of Parliament in the next elections.
I would [ as a Conservative for 50 years ] like to recommend that you are allowed to stand for us in 2015 , over the last few years you have been a great help to me as Chairman of the Oaklands Park Residents Associations. You have made your self available even when your work loads must have been high and I am sure there are a great many constituents who feel the same . WE WANT YOU TO BE THERE FOR US IN 2015 .
" - Edward Earle MBE, Chairman of the Oaklands Park Residents Associations"I was very disappointed to hear the way you have been treated by the local Executive Council. I think you are a great asset to the local community and do a sterling job as our local MP. I very much hope good sense prevails and you can stand again for re-election as our Conservative candidate in 2015. " - Stephen Vickery"Crispin is an outstanding Conservative colleague. A tireless hard worker and passionate about speaking up in Parliament for his constituents, Reigate residents couldn’t ask for a better champion than Crispin." - Rt Hon Gregory Barker MP"I wish to comment that I have visited Mr Blunt on two ocassions and he has supported me immensely. His support has been of great benefit to myself with an ongoing issue. He always makes time to sit and listen to me and does not hesitate to put constructive comments over and how he is going to support me. Nothing is too much for him. I have total confidence in Mr Blunt and would not hesitate to go to him again for his support." - Robert Kibble"Crispin is a great MP and works tirelessly for this constituency. I support him 100%." - Eric Trevett, Constituent"Thank you , I would like to let you know that you & Teresa were so helpful.
I am also glad that you have your army experience so you can be wise when it comes to the life & death decisions you must sometimes partake in; it will also help you know how to judge which important things can be done, as in Linda's & my case.
I do hope you are able to represent the Conservative party at Reigate as long as you wish to.
" - Nicholas Thompson, Constituent"I am appalled that the local conservative committee should, in a secret ballot, without explanation, remove their support from Crispin Blunt. He has been an excellent constituency MP taking up causes as requested and helping a number of people I know with a variety of issues. There is absolutely no legal reason for withdrawing support from our MP and every good reason for voting for him." - Diana Armstrong Crawshaw "Very helpful MP." - angela brett"My name is Antony Coomb, I am a constituent of Reigate, and have lived in Reigate for many years. I am also a local businessperson, owning and operating a care home group for the elderly, Care Homes of Distinction Ltd, Wray Park Care Home and Rutland Nursing Home based in Reigate, and Woodside View Nursing Home in Caterham, Surrey.
I wish to support Mr Crispin Blunt’s intention to stand again as the Conservative candidate at the 2015 General Election. I have found Mr Blunt to be a hard-working MP, always very much involved in the community, with the local people, and deeply involved with local community events in his constituency. I have found him to be very prominent locally and nationally in helping people, as well as in progressing the common person’s concerns in Parliament where necessary. This is what is required of a local MP, he has been the epitome of what the people need in the Parliament to represent their voice. Further, I have found him very helpful in dealing with and taking up local issues, and highlighting these to the appropriate people involved in the government, especially by way of his weekly surgeries held in Reigate. As the past president of the Reigate Rotary Club, I can vouch for the fact that we value his contribution to the local community, and to raising awareness of local issues to the appropriate authorities.
I have personal experience in the way Mr Blunt has helped me in dealing with my financial difficulties relating to the way my business bank has treated me as a customer. He wrote to the chief executive of the bank at my request, appealing to him to look into my concerns and to assist me. Further, he also raised this matter with Mr Vince Cable, the government business secretary, to raise awareness of my problem in the Parliament and the bank. I feel, as a direct result of this and other people with similar problems, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) have issued directives to the banks to conduct reviews of the misselling of interest rate swaps to businesspeople like me, which is currently in progress.
He has also supported some of my employees in the past, including with local personal problems like housing etc. We are also sponsors of work permits and overseas nurse training programs, and our employees have had immigration delays in dealing with our applications for valid VISAS and work permits with the UKBA and overseas British embassies, and some of our employees being stranded in overseas countries without entry VISAS being granted. Mr Blunt has been able to raise these matters with the appropriate authorities, including ministers, to assist in sorting them out promptly, and good outcomes have been achieved as a result.
We are a staunch supporter of the conservative party, and pleased with the way the party is running the country, it needs good people like Mr Blunt who is very hard-working and active, and listens to the views and needs of the local community. We need the right person, like Mr Blunt, to represent the Conservative Party and the local community in Parliament, so that we have a “voice”. Please ensure that he is selected as our Conservative candidate.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Antony Coomb, CEng, MIChemE, MinstE, MinstWM, NVQ 4, RMA
" - Antony Coomb"I hope you will forgive me for writing to you about your own Member of Parliament,Crispin Blunt, and his service to the Conservative Party. I was most surprised and extremely sorry to hear that there are some in the Reigate Conservative Association who perhaps question his suitability as their MP. I have served with Crispin Blunt at the House of Commons for many years, both as a colleague and a friend. I can honestly say that I cannot think of any Members of the House of Commons who I would rather have looking after my interests if I were a constituent in some trouble, than Crispin Blunt. Crispin has always championed the interests of Reigate before anything else and it is an accepted fact that Reigate has received superb support and representation from Crispin throughout his time in Parliament. More than that he has shown great bravery on issues of principle in the House of Commons and the courage to stand out from the crowd where he believes the interests of his constituents, his Party or his country might be adversely affected. He is one of the bravest Members of Parliament I have ever met. The final point that I hope you will not mind me making is that he was an outstanding Minister of Justice bringing to that position the experience he had gleaned as a serving soldier in the British Army as well as his work in politics and in business. Were I a resident or a Conservative in Reigate I would be incredibly keen to hang on to Crispin's service and his support - both for the town and for my family's benefit - I very much hope that will be the view of many local Conservatives." - Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP"When I was elected in 1992 I developed a close working relationship with the then MP for Reigate Sir George Gardiner and since 1997 have similarly worked with Crispin. Much in the world and in our politics has changed over those last twenty years and it’s important that we are principled Conservatives who understand the country we aspire to govern. Crispin is a very assiduous constituency MP, and is highly respected in Parliament on both sides of the chamber. His expertise in defence and foreign affairs- particularly the Middle East- is well recognised and he is a strong asset for his constituency, the Commons, and public service. I have no hesitation whatsoever in urging everyone in Reigate to readopt him as their MP." - Rt Hon Alan Duncan MP"Crispin is an excellent MP and a real asset to the Conservative Party in Parliament. His work in the Justice field in the past few years has been thoughtful and very creative." - Rt Hon Damian Green MP"I was very disappointed to hear that you now have to respond to the Executive Council of the Reigate Conservative Association next month for the all-clear to stand again as the Conservative candidate at the 2015 General Election. Very disappointed indeed.
I have been a Socialist - if we can still use that term - for all of my life, and therefore it will come as no great surprise to you Crispin that I am not a great supporter of
either the Conservative Party or the present Government. I am not referring to stated objectives and principles, they cannot be argued with. I am referring to the always
deep and ever-deepening moral gap between those that have and those that do not. It is not sustainable.
But I still vote for the Conservatives and I will vote for Crispin Blunt at the General Election. Alternatives are not available. And I do that because I basically vote for the
man. You have always been very responsive and responsible in all our communications, which have ranged from Tax Evasion and Avoidance, HMRC's disastrous charity attempts, the Syrian conflict and vote, and I believe you have
always been sincere. And just lately you have stuck, "like a dog with a bone", to a serious issue I've had with the DVLA and made common sense prevail. You succeeded where I'd already given up.
In short, you have done - and are doing - a great job. And I can assure the Executive Council that if Crispin Blunt is not there to vote for in 2015 I will not be voting for the Conservatives. And I will be spreading the word as far as possible.
I will be watching events of course and I wish you the very best Crispin. I look forward to more good dialogue with you over the coming years." - Terence Keen, Constituent"I agree that you and also Teresa were a great help to me in my struggle to get sense out of Raven Housing.
I will say that I think the Tory decision stinks and I have seen no explanation for their decision.
It is a fact that I do not accept homosexuality particularly if it is widely advertised or on open display as in Brighton. However I do not think that is a reason why some one should not be chosen to be an MP or hold down any employment. And that seems to be why this decision was made.
I for one will give you my vote as will my wife in the 2015 election whether you are Conservative or independent. I will not vote for some other Tory candidate foisted on me by a group of Reigate snobs.
I don't mind at all if you show this to them.
Good luck and best wishes.
" - Thomas Fox, Constituent"We visited your surgery earlier this year with a problem. You were very understanding and helped intermediately. As a constituent MP you were great; and as a couple we would both endorse you to stand again.
Thomas & Patricia Mack" - Thomas & Pat Mack"Crispin is an able, well-informed and independent minded MP. His period as prisons minister was distinguished. He knows more about the Middle East and the threats to our security arising from the Middle East than the vast majority of MPs. He brings knowledge and clear judgement to debates and discussions. He is devoted to representing his constituents. Were he not reselected, his would be a meaningless loss to Parliament and public life. He should certainly not be punished for the courage and honesty he demonstrated coming to terms with his sexuality. Such integrity in public life is all too rare. Please vote to support his re-election." - Bernard Jenkin MP"I've personally experienced Crispin Blunt's dedication to serve his constituents. I found his office approachable and his team demonstrated a culture of service excellence. I support Crispin Blunt's re-selection." - Jamshaid Islam"I was the Opposition Chief Whip from 2001 to 2005 and Crispin served as a Whip in the Office. He was selected for that post based on his ability and loyalty to the Conservative Party. He was an excellent Whip and then a very able and hard working Opposition spokesman. However he surpassed all my expectations when he was a Minister in the MoJ driving through fundamental reforms I could only dream of when I was a Home Office Minister in the late 1990s. Of course he has views on some issues which which I disagree, but then, don't we all? However he is a good Conservative and has loyally supported this Coalition Government when some others, who have ceased to be Ministers, have been critical. I respect the right of all Associations to make whatever choice they wish, but we are all part of the Conservative family and if we reject loyal, dedicated and hard-working MPs like Crispin then we will send a very bad signal to the public about our character as a Party. We are a broad church and rightly so, but our opponents would accuse us of being bigoted and we do not need to enter the next election with any more of those ridiculous accusations. I was pleased to have Crispin working as a whip in my office; I was happy to sit beside him in the House of Commons. He is an honourable man and I wish him success in his re-selection." - Rt Hon Lord Blencathra"I want to place on public record my wholehearted support for Crispin to remain as our MP. Crispin is an independent minded, experienced and committed local MP, and over the years I have been particularly grateful for his support for Redhill, where I am a councillor. I have supported Crispin in all of his reselection ballots, and I was shocked and disappointed that he was not reselected at the first stage this time around. I sincerely hope that my fellow Conservative members in the area, many of whom I have worked with for years, will publicly pledge their support, and vote for his reselection." - Cllr Julian Ellacott"a huge supporter of causes in the local community and long may it continue" - Zubin Bharucha "I am very pleased to have known Crispin as a friend and cricketing team mate for the last sixteen years. Besides his integrity and loyalty, what impresses me most is the effort he puts in to help constituents overcome the obstacles that officialdom can put in the way of those in difficulty or distress. A very committed campaigner for Reigate as well." - Andrew Lewis"10 or so years ago, a few years after his election to be Reigate's MP, Crispin was instrumental in saving the sports ground at St Albans Road for Mickleham School, the Nutley Hall and Reigate Prior Cricket Clubs from the developers and those that were advocating the selling off of school playing fields at that time. Although many of his peers may have questioned his actions, he chose to support local needs over political dogma and the sporting ambitions of many young children and those at both cricket clubs were realised and we continue to play at the ground, which we all thoroughly appreciate. I wish you the best of luck, Crispin. " - Mike Oehlers"I have been a supporter of Crispin Blunt since he was first elected as an MP and he has been an excellent constituency MP, an excellent shadow minister and a pretty decent minister. He is intelligent and thoughtful and his stance on intervention in Syria was bold and has proved to be 100% correct. He has really made a difference and deserves to be retained at the local conservative candidate. If he was deselected I would not vote conservative again." - Peter Hutchinson"I for one wholly endorse Crispin as my representative for local candidacy. His passion and enthusiasm for the community he serves is second to none and I have total belief in him as the right man for the job." - Oli Tame"Crispin has been an outstanding colleague in the House of Commons and it was a pleasure to work with him in the Ministry of Justice. I do hope he is reselected for Reigate, so that he can continue to be a loyal MP, working hard for his constituents and contributing to the Government's work in making this country a better place for the future." - Mary Macleod MP"Crispin is an excellent MP and a glowing example of what all MP's should aspire towards" - Andy Grave"I have had the good fortune to work with Crispin both in Opposition and in Government. In my view he is a highly effective parliamentarian with that essential combination for an MP of being highly principled, a clear thinker and assiduous in whatever he undertakes. " - The Earl Howe"Crispin has done much to support our local cricket club, and I would like to reciprocate that support here. " - Justin Dempsey"i thank you and your staff for helping me with an issue previously and my family and i wish you all the best for the future." - vivienne scott"could not get a better MP. Has been a great help to my family on more than one occasion." - IRENE PERMAN-MAIN"I can not thank Crispin enough for all he has done for my family and I. We required NHS funding and had been pushed from pillar to post for almost 2 years and getting nowhere. Enough was enough! I wrote to Crispin who liased with the PCT and resolved the problem within a matter of weeks. I was very impressed with the prompt response and the professionalism that was displayed by Crispin and his team. Crispin dealt with the issue in a sensitve manner. Crispin is a Fantastic MP and it would be a crying shame if he is not re selected. " - Nicola Taylor"I feel immense pleasure to give my views in favour of Mr Crispin Blunt MP of Reigate Constituency as under:
There is no doubt he is hardworking, pain taking, cooperative and efficient MP of his area. It is not out of place to mention here that whenever I requested him to help me in solving my personal problems and other matters he helped me whole heartedly.
It would be much appreciated if Mr Crispin Blunt MP be given an opportunity to stand again as Conservative Candidate for the coming General Election in 2015 for the betterment of his constituents. I wish him to be conservative MP from Reigate Constituency. Once again wishing him every success.
" - Zafarullah Yaseen"I am happy to lend my full support to Crispin Blunt." - Sandra Goring"Through Crispin`s office I received excellent support and practical assistance for a problem my daughter was having with HMRC We had tried to solve the problem ourselves but seemed to keep hitting a brick wall. Through our MP`s service we finally reached a happy conclusion, when I then wrote to Crispin and also to his caseworker thanking them for their assistance. We were dealt with efficiently in an empathetic and non patronising way. Both my daughter and I were very impressed and would not hesitate to recommend local citizens to approach this MP when they have an appropriate difficulty with which they need help. " - Carole Goldsbrough"Without Mr Blunt's help I would not have had a favourable response from the NHS for new teeth implants. Twice he took up cudgels on my behalf with the NHS and both times it ended favourably. Mr Blunt works very hard indeed for his constituents both collectively and individually. I sincerely hope he remains our MP for long into the future." - Roger Davies"Ever since I first met Crispin when he was 13 I have always been impressed by his deep sense of public service and commitment. Through hard work and sacrifice he has dutifully served nation, parliament and constituency and done so consistently for many years. I give him my full and unqualified support." - Lord Strathclyde CH"I think the Executive has behaved disgracefully and I will support you in any way I can (Pickle too!)." - Ann Chapple"I am sorry to hear about the challenges you are facing, and I just wanted to let you know how very much I admire the work you have done in Parliament and at the Ministry of Justice.
As you know, we had a great deal to do with one another when you were at the Ministry of Justice. I think I can safely say that you made an enormously significant contribution.
I believe that one of the things this Government will be remembered for is the way it has begun to reduce crime by paying more effective attention to the rehabilitation of offenders and of drug addicts - and you can certainly claim a significant part of the credit for that.
This is a lasting achievement, which is symptomatic of the distinguished contribution you have made as a Parliamentarian." - Rt Hon Oliver Letwin MP"Crispin Blunt worked for me for 4 years when I was Secretary of State for Defence and then Foreign Secretary. I was delighted when he entered the House of Commons as MP for Reigate. I know him to be a man of the highest integrity, dedicated to his constituents and to Parliament. He served ably as a Minister and is a considerable asset to the House of Commons. I have no hesitation in endorsing him and would be happy to travel to Reigate to reassure anyone who needed to be convinced!" - Sir Malcolm Rifkind MP"I was very surprised to learn that there was any question mark at all over your re-adoption as candidate for Reigate at the next election.
I have known you now for many years, and as well as working together both in the whips office, and on the Front Bench, I have had the chance to campaign with you on many different issues.
I have also had the chance to see you in action in the Chamber, on Committee and working with outside organisations.
I have nothing but the highest admiration for you and I have also noticed that many of your campaigns have been either geared to or aimed at key issues in your own constituency. You have been an indefatigable champion for Reigate, not just in terms of standing up for the constituency as a whole, but also taking up the cases of many constituents who have required your help in their hour of need.
In conclusion, it is my view that you are a truly outstanding MP, someone who is widely regarded and respected across the whole House. I very much hope that you are successful in your re-adoption as the Reigate constituency really could not be better served." - Henry Bellingham MP"As a new MP you take quiet stock of all around you, trying to separate wind from substance: ambition from ability and judgement from intellect.
Crispin, unusually in this place, is quiet until he wants to say something. But on those issues where he has something to contribute , he will say it loud.
Crispin adds a lot to Parliament especially through his wide knowledge of defence and foreign affairs. When big issues come up - what response to Syrian chemical weapons? - he has views, articulates the and challenges any consensus. I have no doubt that Reigate punches above its weight in Parliamentary debates because of its MP's reputation and knowledge, and his known independence of spirit. These are precious qualities, which many constituency MPs do not have. Long may they stay in Reigate's hands!" - Richard Graham MP"HE ARRANGED A REVIEW OF BACKCLAIM OF STATE PENSION..ALTHOUGH NO RELIEF ACHIEVED IT DID HIGHLIGHT THE RIDICULOUS COMPLEXITY IN CALCULATIO N WHICH WILL IMPROVE SOON." - Lionel Baker"When I had an ongoing housing issue I went to Mr Blunt for his support in resolving the issue. He spoke the top person in the housing agency and within a few weeks I was back on track with my housing complaint. Thank you for your support in this matter, I am most grateful for your speedy response.
Matt" - Matthew Carroll"As a Reigate and Banstead Borough councillor between 2008-12, I am keenly aware of the respect Crispin commands, especially amongst the back benches of ordinary councillors, and more importantly amongst residents. It is difficult to overstate the benefits of having someone so down-to-earth who really listens with great attention to all your problems. Crispin quickly gets things done, making your concerns his top priority. After 16 years of serving Reigate, he’s done us all proud and I hope he will serve us for many more years. Best wishes, Imran Khan" - Imran Khan"I and my family are fairly new to the area and we were faced with lots of challenges that I will not go into the details. However, when we consulted Crispin as our local MP, he responded very quickly and as a result we were able to overcome the hurdles we were experiencing. I must commend Crispin for his professionalism, ability to listen and respond to local residents in the local area. Word of mouth also has it that he is very helpful and reliable. He deserves to be re-selected and re-elected. " - Robert Mugambe"I have known Crispin since we both entered Parliament in 1997 He has my full personal support.
He has been a diligent and useful MP and I very much hope he will be returned as the Member for Reigate at the next election.
" - Rt Hon Lord Flight"I Totally support Crisipin's Reselection. See my letter in this weeks's surrey mirror under Mal CG" - Malcolm Case-Green"I am 100% behind Crispin Blunts re Election. During a recent dispute with network rail that had been on going for over two years Crispin and his colleague Teresa were a massive help in getting the dispute sorted.
During this dispute we had tried every avenue to get it resolved in our favour. As a final attempt at getting the issue resolved we contacted Crispin's office. Once Crispin found out about our issue he, along with Teresa devoted a great deal of time and effort representing us to network rail and did not let up until the matter was 100% resolved. This has been the only time I have felt the need to contact a local MP and I have to say that the support that he has given us along with Teresa was incredible.I am sure that without there help we would still be waiting for this matter to be resolved. Good luck for the re election and thanks again for all of your help, it is very much appreciated.
James McDonald" - James McDonald"Just a short note to say that I have needed the guidance and services of my MP (Crispin) from time to time over the past few years, and I have always found both his and his offices support most welcome, useful and timely. Therefore I would suggest that Crispin and his office seem hard working and effective advocates for Reigate & Banstead constituents so I am not convinced that there is a need to change his candidature?!" - Steve McNeice (constituent )"You have my strong support. I believe you have been an excellent and effective MP and made a serious and strong contribution to the Party, to Parliament and to the national interest." - Rt Hon Lord Howell of Guildford"I strongly support the Reselection of Crispin Blunt as a loyal colleague in Government and in the Ministry of Defence." - Rt Hon Lord Freeman" I am not a supporter of the Conservative Party and do not agree with many of Mr Blunt's views. However, on an issue of non-collection of waste from my property which had been on-going for nearly a year, the matter was resolved very satisfactorily with Mr Blunt's intervention. I was grateful for his assistance and I can see no reason why he should not be re-selected by the Reigate Constituency." - Valerie Detnon, Constituent"I wish to express my thanks to you in respect of two matters. Firstly in the context of my complaint about the handlong of a minor court case which you referred to the Parlimentary Ombudsman which matter is now concluded and secondly your help concerning the ongoing matter relating to my representation as treasurer of the Cophill Lane Road fund and the recovery of c. ÂŁ5,000 spent on behalf of the 48 contributing houses I represent. There are as you knoe 2 separate issues here. firstly the misleading response from Surrey CC and the reasons why they have chosen to provide you with misleading answers and secondly why they chose to walk away from their responsibilities for public safety. you do of course have full written details. i am sure that with your help this matter can bwe properly concluded.
thank you again we really do need you
treasurer copthill lane road fund" - john broome"Crispin is a principled and brave politician.
I know many people inside and outside Parliament who have a very high regard for his work as a Minister and Member of Parliament.
Since 2010 I have found him to be an extremely good team player. Helpful and supportive to new MPs and not afraid to speak his mind.
I very much hope that he is reselected for the Reigate constituency.
" - Nigel Adams MP"I have known Crispin for many years and I want to officially put my name behind Crispin’s campaign for re-selection.
Crispin and I worked together in the Whips’ Office and have shared an adjacent office for some time, this has allowed me to see firsthand what a hard working member of Parliament Crispin is. Crispin is a man of fine character and it is my opinion that the people of Reigate are fortunate to have him as their Member of Parliament – and long may it be the case.
" - James Duddridge MP"We need MPs like Crispin Blunt. Over Syria, he was prepared to hold the government to account. Prepared to stand up to the whips, he is one of those few MPs that are beginning to restore purpose to Parliament.
As a minister, Crispin began to implement the sort of intelligent reform of our criminal justice system that is long overdue.
Having campaigned for an In / Out EU referendum for all my adult life, I know that Crispin supports one too. He's an ally for anyone fed up with the way Brussels runs our lives.
" - Douglas Carswell MP"From my experiences and those of many people I know Crispin has been a superb local MP. He has been hugely supportive of Reigate Priory Cricket Club in their efforts to bring about the redevelopment of their clubhouse and their future vision to maintain a wonderful cricket and sporting complex for the community. His efforts have played a major part in the club's success. He has also helped many club members on personal and business issues. An excellent well liked, approachable local MP. " - Andrew Richard Packham"The work you did both in government and back benches has been exemplary. Your contribution to the Syria debate, albeit a different contribution to mine was invaluable. You should not be in a situation such as this and I urge the members of your association to send a clear message to the world." - Nadhim Zahawi MP"Crispin Blunt is a friend a colleague whom I am proud to work alongside in the House of Commons.
Reigate is fortunate to have such a decent, hardworking man representing them in the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
We need Crispin back as M.P. for Reigate in 2015 and I hope his local Association members will have the good sense to re-adopt him.
One other thing, Crispin is true patriot, he loves his country and has a huge amount still to offer in the service to our nation as an elected parliamentarian.
I wish Crispin all the luck in the world!
Andrew Rosindell M.P.
Member of Parliament for Romford
" - Andrew Rosindell M.P."When Crispin and I found ourselves looking for a way forward from different perspectives on a notoriously difficult issue, I was deeply impressed by the initiative and sensitivity he brought to bear. I hope Reigate Conservatives will give him the chance to bring his talents back to the House of Commons." - Steve Baker MP"Crispin is a first rate Member of Parliament, diligent, intelligent, thoughtful and forceful in speaking up for his constituents and the things he believes in. He works hard and is widely respected in the Commons. Loyal to his constituency, his party and his country, he deserves to be reselected." - Peter Luff MP"I have now known Crispin for some eight years and I am entirely happy to put on record the fact that I regard him very highly, both as a parliamentarian and as a colleague.
We have campaigned together in by-elections and I have never had any reason to doubt his full commitment to the interests of the Conservative Party." - Rt Hon David Jones MP"Crispin and I were elected on the same day and we have worked together on many issues in Parliament. He is well respected and always stands up for his constituents and his colleagues here at Westminster would like to see him back after the next election." - Eleanor Laing MP"Crispin is an extremely effective Member of Parliament, who has carried the fight to the Labour Party.
It would be a great loss for the Parliamentary Party and the Conservative Party as a whole if he was not in the House making the case for Conservatism as he has done in the past." - James Clappison MP"Crispin is a hard working and popular colleague who has made an important contribution to the Party in Westminster while standing up vigorously for the interests of his constituents.
I have always found Crispin friendly and courteous and I think it would be a shame if he leaves Parliament.
" - Kwasi Kwarteng MP "Crispin is a excellent, hardworking representative for our community, regularly seen to be putting great support behind good local projects and worthwhile issues and to maintaining Reigate as a decent place to live, in so many ways. Approachable, knowledgeable, dynamic and very helpful, I cannot see any good or fair reason why anyone would want a change of MP at this time. I fully support Crispin's re-selection." - Jim Harmer"Crispin Blunt's work to get squatting in residential buildings criminalised was second to none. By taking up this fight, he closed one of the most bizarre loopholes in British property law. Nobody sensible could understand why it hadn't been done years earlier - yet it was Crispin who had the drive to make the change a reality." - Robert Nemeth"I got to know Crispin during the debates around the changes to the Squatting laws. The law needed changing and Crispin showed courage and tenacity to drive this through Parliament. He is a formidable parliamentarian." - Mike Weatherley MP"Crispin has dedicated his adult life to public service, and his commitment to serving his country and its people – from his career in the Army through to his time in Westminster – is exemplary. A superb MP, Crispin works tirelessly on behalf of the people of Reigate, and I sincerely hope that he is able to continue representing them." - Sajid Javid MP"I had the pleasure of working closely with Crispin in the Opposition Whips office and can vouch for his intelligence, quick wittedness and hard work." - Andrew Selous MP"Hello Crispin. Listening to ' The World this Weekend ,' as an ex - constiteant of yours, am disgusted but not surprised to have heard about moves made against your position. Having had the pleasure to have met you on a few occasions in the Nutley. Then experienced the effectiveness of you as our MP , by a successful intervention you made a good few years ago on behalf of my then Mother in Law when having trouble when in the East Surrey. Sir , from afar - if it only can be moral support , you can count on me. Jeremy CB - You Are A Good Man & have the Heart of the size of a Stella System." - Jeremy Yockney"Crispin brings a fantastic knowledge of defence and foreign affairs to the House of Commons and has always worked extremely hard in the interests of the people of Reigate." - Leo Docherty"I have only really known Crispin since I was elected in 2010, but he has always been immensely helpful to me and is someone who cares about those who he works with. He is a huge asset to parliament and, I would imagine, to his constituents as well. I would, respectfully, urge the Reigate Conservatives to re-adopt Crispin for 2015." - Mark Garnier"I would like to add my wholehearted support for Crispin Blunt. He was hugely helpful in getting me settled into Parliament when I became an MP in 2005 and has been a good friend ever since. Crispin is a strong advocate in Parliament for his constituents and is an MP you can all be proud of." - Brooks Newmark MP"When I and others came to you to help make squatting of residential properties a criminal offence, you were supportive, providing helpful guidance on how to navigate the system. Your friendliness and approachability is appreciated." - Mike Freer MP"I would like to add my support to those of many other MPs who value your support as a colleague and believe that you make a significant contribution to the Conservative Party and the work of the Parliamentary Party.
Having served with you as a minister in the Ministry of Justice and having sat in the room next to you for those 2.5 years, I know full well the tremendous effort and dedication that you put into your public service as a minister. And a successful job you made of it too.
I am sure that this significant contribution will be properly recognised by your local Party, and I wish you well in your re-selection campaign.
" - Jonathan Djanogly MP"As a fellow member of the 1997 intake, I can vouch for Crispin's assiduousness and dedication as a Parliamentarian throughout his time as an MP. I do not always agree with every stance he takes, but I always respect his sincerity and integrity.
Crispin is highly regarded by colleagues and his views are taken very seriously indeed on both sides of the Chamber
" - Julian Lewis MP"I would like to take the opportunity to publicly state my support for Crispin’s re-selection campaign. Crispin is well liked and highly respected amongst colleagues in Westminster.
I also know how proud he is to represent Reigate, and how hard he works for people in his constituency.
" - Simon Kirby MP"I wanted to put on the record my support along with all the other MPs who have spoken strongly in favour of Crispin’s outstanding work as a Parliamentarian and as a representative of Reigate. He is a first class constituency MP who clearly cares deeply for his local area and pursues issues on behalf his constituents with an enormous amount of energy. He has also made an incredible contribution to the national Party and to the work of Government, during his time as a Minister. I hope the local party in Reigate recognise his valuable work by re-selecting him as their candidate for 2015." - Pauline Latham MP"Since my election in 2010 it has been a privilege to work with Crispin in the House of Commons. Crispin has always been a pugnacious fighter for Reigate and Parliament would be much diminished if he were not returned in 2015." - Jake Berry MP"It is of course entirely for the Reigate Association to decide this matter. No doubt it will want to do so on the basis of the best information available about Crispin's work in Parliament.
My own view is that his work has been impressive. When Crispin was Chairman of the Conservative Middle East Council and I was Chairman of the Conservative Friends of Israel, his approach to me was straightforward and grown up. He said that we should not fight out in Parliament the disputes which so mar the Middle East - and he was quite right. We worked together constructively and productively as a result of his mature approach to politics.
As Chairman of the Defence Select Committee I have been struck by his knowledge and commitment to the defence of our country. His experience in the matter - and his speeches - have been of considerable value to the House. I should be sorry if we lost them. " - Rt Hon James Arbuthnot MP"Dear Mr Crispin Blunt. My family and I wish you luck. I also remember from a personal experience that you are a good person and have been a very good MP. You, sir, stood by us in the Police custody issue against all odds. You deserve to win this seat more than any one else and the party should support you to win your position in the next election. You are not aware that in the last hearing of the custody issue I had also telephoned the Labour personal who was standing against you and requested that he should attend and support our cause but you know that he never turned up. From that day onward you converted a life time Labour supporter to a Conservative voter. Thank you. Our best wishes are with you . Ahmed" - Ahmed Rai"I hope very much that the Reigate Association will re-select Crispin. He's a great colleague in the House, always good humoured and very supportive of we 'newbies'. He did a great job at Justice and hasn't missed a step in taking up the role of an active backbencher once again, however difficult that may have been. I wish him all the best in his campaign to be re-adopted." - George Hollingbery MP"Crispin Blunt and I were on different sides of the debate over same sex marriage but Crispin always made his case with dignity, civility and decorum. I worked with him in the Whips Office and he was professional, diligent and a good team player. I believe that Crispin has a lot more to contribute to Parliament as the MP for Reigate and I wish him well in his reselection." - Stewart Jackson MP"I have worked with Crispin as a colleague in the Opposition Whips Office and when he was an Opposition Spokesman.
I have always found Crispin to be a hard working and diligent in his Parliamentary duties. He has always fought hard for what he believes in and for his constituents in the House of Commons. I am sure this is recognised by the constituents he has helped over the years in Reigate." - The Rt. Hon. Simon Burns MP"I have known Crispin for many years. I have had the honour to serve with him in HM Forces and had the pleasure of him being my MP. He has always been a very honest man who cares deeply about colleagues and works tirelessly to serve his constituents. I would be delighted to see him continue his good work." - David Stead"I have long admired Crispin's hard work, determination and loyalty to his constituents in progressing and representing their concerns so tenaciously in Westminster. There are many Conservative Associations across the UK who would love to have a decent guy like Crispin as their MP. In my view, Crispin is a fantastic Member of Parliament and I am extremely disappointed and disgusted with the Reigate Association for not formally re-approving him, with overtones of bigotry, bias and backwardness that many thought we had eradicated in the Conservatives, which should only belong in the out of date politics of the BNP and UKIP. I sincerely hope that Crispin is able to continue in his role representing Reigate and continue to fight hard on many issues in Parliament that he has spoken about over the years. Ultimately Reigate and Parliament are stronger for having Crispin as their Conservative representative - and I can only hope the Conservative members of Reigate Association see that as well." - Cllr Michael Horwood"It was an honour to work for Crispin for over five years in his parliamentary office. I saw at firsthand how tirelessly he works for his constituents and for his local party. Having shared many hours campaigning with Crispin for local Conservative candidates in every ward of the constituency, in Guildford and in Sutton and Cheam I know that he has never taken his local supporters for granted. I very much hope that the Reigate Conservative Association re-select Crispin to ensure that the Conservatives have a candidate with a strong track record as an MP and a Minister for the 2015 election." - Charles Pitt"I have worked with Crispin as a new backbench MP, hosting his Ministerial visit to Winchester, and in the House as a member of the Justice Select Committee. Simple truth is, he's a respected and experienced colleague who speaks with authority in the House of Commons and outside. That is really important. Parliament needs grown-up figures who, ultimately, ensure we have a grown-up functioning legislature and Crispin is one of them. The people of the Reigate constituency are lucky to have him as their Member of Parliament in my opinion." - Steve Brine MP"Crispin is a great Member of Parliament and deserves the full support of the local Conservative party. Our hospital has had many challenges over previous years and Crispin has always been there for us. He is too modest to say it himself, but he was instrumental in securing the Department of Health's support for the many improvements made over the past few years enabling the clinical teams to thrive. He is always positive, always helpful and does what he says he will. Thank you Crispin! He is the strongest supporter that our hospital has ever had and we would be mad not to select him as our candidate for the next General Election." - Dr Ben Mearns"Crispin was an excellent Minister and went out of his way to help. I have always found him to be generous and courteous in his dealings with me, beyond the call of duty." - Charlotte Leslie MP"A great MP, well respected in Westminster and with his constituents. Here's the Crispin Blunt for Reigate." - Ben Furnival"I used to be employed in Mr Blunt's constituency. He took a keen and knowledgeable interest in my employer's business. When the business ran into a complex technical and political problem, he grasped it far more quickly and thoroughly than anyone else from whom we sought help. And he took helpful action. Reigate is very fortunate to have the opportunity to re-select such an able MP." - D J Renney"Since my election in 2010 it has been a privilege to work with Crispin in the House of Commons. Crispin has always been a pugnacious fighter for Reigate and Parliament would be much diminished if he were not returned in 2015." - Jake Berry MP"Crispin is a first class constituency MP. He is known throughout the House of Commons for his hard work, diligence, and preparedness to stand up for his constituents. He is loyal to the Party - but also independent-minded. His departure from the Commons would be a sad loss. Therefore, I hope fair-minded people will support him - overwhelmingly" - Mark Pritchard MP"Crispin has been and is a fine MP who has always been fully involved with local issues and always aware of the interests of the local electorate. He always answers one's concerns and is a perfect representative of our constituency. I have known Crispin since he was first selected and can say that he is a thoroughly decent human being and excellent Member of Parliament." - Frank Millard"When I was elected in 2005 I was given an office right next to Crispin in Parliament, and have visited him in Reigate. I am not sure what has gone wrong within the Executive Committee of the Reigate Conservative Association. I am not just saying this because he is my friend - my direct and sustained experience Crispin is of a very very good MP, both in Parliament and the constituency. I stood next to him in the Chamber when he led the charge against the bonkers proposal to get involved in Syria's civil war, but I did not stand with him over Same Sex Marriage. In fact, it was one of Crispin's guests in Crispin's house in Reigate who gave me the best arguments against gay marriage that I have heard. If the problem for some people is in some way about Crispin's changes in his private domestic arrangements, I would point people to what he has been doing for the last 30+ years - serving the people of this country both as an army officer and as highly competent MP." - Adam Holloway MP"I am proud to count Crispin as a colleague and friend. We worked very long hours together in the Conservative Opposition Whips Office for several years and I had the opportunity to get to know him well. He is a true Conservative, principled, very hard working both in Parliament and in his constituency of Reigate. He is loyal, sympathetic, considerate, well informed and has impeccable interpersonal and social skills. He is always scrupulously well mannered and a delight to know. Reigate Conservative Association would be very ill advised to let him slip though their fingers." - Dame Angela Watkinson, DBE MP"I would like to add my own warm message of support for Crispin. I have worked with him in his Ministerial capacity when I sat on the Justice Select Committee and was always impressed by his good work and friendly attitude. I hope that the Reigate Association will recognise his hard work in Parliament and in the constituency, and re-select him in 2015." - Robert Buckland MP"Crispin is an excellent MP and was a first-rate minister. Crispin was instrumental in helping Mike on his campaign to get squatting in residential properties criminalised. The country is a better place with this law and Crispin helped make this happen." - Michael Ireland"Since I was elected to Parliament in 2010, I have found Crispin to be an effective Minister for the time he served, and since that time he has been an excellent colleague on the backbenches standing up for his constituents of Reigate.
I very much hope that he is reselected to fight the General Election in 2015." - Andrew Bridgen MP"This man is good vote for him he helped when my mum was murdered good luck to you Crispin Blunt" - Russell Crowe"Crispin is a great champion for Conservative values in the House of Commons and a dedicated public servant. He has been a steadfast supporter of the Government and especially helpful to me in my work of raising standards in schools. I have always been able to rely on his wisdom, energy and passion when it comes to improving education. Crispin was a great ministerial colleague and he has so much more to offer the Party and the Government in the future I very much hope he will be given the chance to continue his distinguished contribution to public service." - Rt. Hon. Michael Gove MP
